I’m sure there are plenty of women like me who are rejoicing at the fact that sneakerinas are suddenly in fashion. Sneakerinas and ballet sneakers are the perfect shoe for those of us that avoid high heels where we can and like to be comfortable when we are walking.
This hybrid mix of a sneaker and ballet flat has always been around but over the last year some really big brands have decided to elevate their designs and created some amazing looking footwear.
Let me walk you through some of my favourites including a pair that I have bought twice because they look so good.

Sporty Sneakerinas
Adidas Women’s Samba Jane Sneakers
Ok if you had heard about the Adidas Samba trend then where have you been? Their standard style retro trainers have been everywhere over the past year or so and were the trainer to be seen in.
Adidas obviously wants to milk the sales for all they are worth as has now created a mary-jane style sporty sneaker version that looks like the Sambas apart from the lace up style has now given way to a velcro strap closing.
As ever these are a fantastic casual sneaker that works well with streetwear styles, jeans and even dresses and skirts.
There are a range of colours to choose from so you should be able to find something that suits your taste.
Sneakerinas are going to be everywhere and I predict the trend will explode this spring once the winter is over and everyone is wearing these new low profile trainers.
MavMax Ballet Sneakers for Women
My next design choice is a brand called MavMax which I have never heard of. It is clear that these ballet sneaker flats are a dupe for the Puma Speedcat Sneakerinas which I will talk about later.
The colours may be slightly different but the style is almost identical with the elasticated front, cut out side and different coloured stripe.
The thing that I love about this style of sneaker is that it is slightly more feminine than traditional styles which often seem a little bit clumpy on me. I prefer the rounded toes, low profile and elasticated front look.
I actually adore my Puma originals but I thought I would include these in case someone is in the market for a dupe. Personally I don’t think the price point of the dupes is sufficient for me to want to switch from the real deal.
Mary Jane Ballet Trainers
Dr. Scholl’s Work Womens Goodie
Dr Scholls are a brand that I recommend regularly especially for people who need more comfort and foot support. They are well known for making shoes and sneakers that not only loook good but have extra cushioning and arch support so that your feet stay healthy.
This particular style of sneakerina is in a Mary-Jane style with a velcro fastening which allows you to adjust the tightness of the shoe to your particular needs. This is useful if you have wider or narrower feet as you can make adjustments for a better fit.
I like the white and silver colour of these which make them a little more interesting and more like fashion sneakers.
For those of you that want sustainable shoes these have a lining and topcloth make from recycled plastic bottles. Plus they are shipped in recycled materials as well.
Kenneth Cole REACTION Women’s Cameron Ballet Sneaker
Kenneth Cole also sells sneakerina style shoes with an elasticated front and you can buy them in this gold colour or a black version.
These have a knotted fabric design which is stretch and rhinestones to add interest.
Personally these are a little bit too blingy for my tastes but plenty of people want a comfy sneakerina with a little more pzazz than the normal stules.
Pink Ballet Trainers
JW PEI Women’s Flavia Ballerina Sneakers
When you think of womens ballet shoes you think of pink satin and these sneakerinas nail this look.
Satin might not be the material you most associate with sneakers but it actually looks great althought how practical this pink colour will be after wearing them for a few months is open to debate.
If you worry about the satin marking buy a great shoe protector spray to keep them looking good and don’t wear them outside in bad weather or anywhere that you know will be dirty or muddy.
For those of you who aren’t loving the pink satin you can also buy these in denim and silver versions which are probably a little bit more practical.
PUMA Womens Speedcat Ballet Suede Ballet Slip On Flats
Now I mentioned right at the start I had bought a pair of ballet sneakers and they had become my go to sneakerinas for the season. They were in fact these Puma Speedcat Ballet sneakers only mine are in black satin.
I loved the comfort and style so much I went and bought a second pair as back-up for when my new ones start to wear out. Not that getting a second pair was that easy as the colourway I wanted was sold out everywhere and I had to import them from Germany!
Anyway you’ll be pleased to hear that many of the other colours are still in stock including these gorgeous pink and black versions.
Mine go with absolutely everything and are super comfortable. I have wide feet but I had no problem getting them to fit. The elasticated front probably helps as it gives you some stretch.
I can’t recommend them highly enough plus they are on trend so you’ll be keeping up with the fashionistas as well.
Lace up ballet trainers
Adidas Women’s Taekwondo Mei Shoes
If you thought the Adidas Samba Snearkerinas had a low profile then wait until you see these Taekwondo Mei shoes from the same brand.
These are as flat as they come but still have that Adidas stripe detail which everyone is familiar with.
I like this design because the lacing allows you more control of how tightly you want your sneakers to fit. However if you are lazy like me doing lacing takes more time rather than the slip on styles you can buy.
VIVAIA Cristina Square-Toe Lace-Up Satin Sneakerina with Dual Lace Styles
This is another ballet sneaker style that also comes in satin with ribbons as laces.
Buy these if you want to buy something a little less casual as these could be worn in casual or more formal settings.
The elastic back is also a nice touch and helps give a better fit without the sneakers rubbing your heels.
These are lovely shoes but again not something I would be keen on wearing in the wetter weather because I’m not convinced they would stay looking good even with protector on them.
Geerta Sneakerina Satin Ballerina Sneakers
Finally my last pick of the bunch is actually the most budget shoe of them all but looks really chic and high-end.
The suede material mixed with the satin, stripes, buckles and laces make these look very different from some of the other styles I’ve been looking at.
I haven’t tested these but supposedly they have extra cushioning and support. I’m not convinced they are for hiking along trails or for workouts as the manufacturers suggest but they look good for every day wear.
They are breathable as well which is great for a budget shoe as they will prevent sweat build up.
So Are You Buying Into The Sneakerina Trend?
Personally I think that ballet sneakers are the kind of shoes that make you wonder how you ever lived without them.
My Sneakerinas give me the same comfort as my favorite sneakers but with a softer more feminine look. They have become my go-t0 shoe of the year. Give them a go and see if you think the same.
