I know that most people associate winter footwear with Boots but I still love to wear sneakers especially for casual days out. So I’ve collated some of the best womens sneakers for winter that will look good but also cope with rain, cold pavements and everyday wear without falling apart.
Over the years I’ve worn plenty of sneakers that haven’t survived the season but now I have a really good idea of which styles and designs work well in real life. My top seven picks this year are tough enough to handle wet weather and even in some case even snow. Here are my recommendations for sneakers that can work in an average winter.

Stylish and Casual Womens Winter Sneakers
SOREL Women’s Kinetic Impact Caribou Plus Waterproof Boot
If you have been reading my posts for a while you’ll know that I love Sorels Kinetic range of sneakers and boots. The designs are so on trend and look so different to anything else on the market.
This style is officially called a boot but honestly it could easily be a sneaker so I’m adding it to the top of my favorite winter trainers for this year. It barely hits over the ankle, it looks modern and will work with everything from jeans to casual skirts. This really is a style leader and it looks effortlessly cool but it is still a practical winter-ready shoe.
I love that it doesn’t scream “winter boot,” so you can wear it in the city without feeling weighed down or bulky.
Beyond the style, it’s packed with features that make winter days easier to handle. The shoe feels cozy and warm without being heavy, and the microfleece lining is perfect for chilly mornings. The sole grips well on slippery surfaces, and the waterproof suede keeps your feet dry in puddles and slush. Even the removable EVA sockliner with a soft top layer makes it comfortable enough to wear all day. For me, this is the kind of sneaker that balances fashion with winter practicality.
Sam Edelman Women’s Harper Sneakers
My next choice is this funky shearling style sneaker by Sam Edelman.
Ok so it might not be the greatest shoe to walk in the rain and it can’t handle snow but the shearling look is giving me total cozy vibes and will keep your feet warm.
These are great sneakers for city wear on cold days when you won’t be exposed to the elements. I would never wear these in extreme weather but for short walks around the block or jaunts for a coffee on a cold day these are fun, stylish and warm.
Project Cloud Platform Sneakers for Women
The best womens sneakers for winter don’t have to be expensive as demonstrated by these Project Cloud shoes that you can get on Amazon.
Ok they aren’t waterproof but they are water resistant which means that they will be able to cope with a certain amount of rain without getting your feet wet.
I’m showing the white version here which might not be the best choice for wet or muddy conditions but they do come in lots of different color variations so there is bound to be something that should work for you.
Plus they have a platform sole. This is great if you want a little extra height and also good if you walk through a puddle as your ankles are less likely to get wet.
These are great affordable winter sneakers that will work well provided you are not planning to push them to extremes.
Women’s Waterproof Winter Sneakers
On Women’s Cloud 6 Waterproof Sneakers
My next pick are less on trend and much more practical. They are also the most expensive of my choices but for a reason. These spendy sneakers are waterproof which means that if you need footwear that can cope with really wet winter days then these are the pair for you.
Sneakers that keep your feet dry and going to be really important if you do a lot of walking around all day. These have a soft, bouncy feeling underfoot and mean you don’t get foot fatigue when you are out and about.
I would call these sporty and sleek and would work with jeans or leggings. They look like proper gym shoes but they also mean you’ll never be walking around with soggy feet if you get caught up in a downpour.
Columbia Women’s Peakfreak Hera Outdry Hiking Shoe
The Columbia Women’s Peakfreak Hera Outdry Hiking Shoe is technically a hiking shoe, but honestly, it looks just like a sleek everyday sneaker. This works well for winter because you get all the style of a sneaker with the hidden bonus of great traction underneath. This means I can walk on wet pavements, slippery paths, or uneven winter streets and stay safe. As I have a hip problem this is really important for me as the last thing I want to do is fall over.
Beyond the grip, these shoes are surprisingly comfortable for all-day wear. They hug the foot nicely without feeling tight, and the cushioned sole makes even long city walks feel easy. For me, they’re perfect for blending practical winter features with a look that actually goes with my everyday outfits all the benefits of a hiking shoe without the bulky boot vibe.
Plus if you ever did want to go hiking or trailing running in them (I don’t) they would work for that as well.
Timberland Women’s Motion Access Low Lace Up Waterproof Sneaker
Everyone has heard of Timberland boots but what about their sneakers?
This Timberland Women’s Motion Access Low Lace Up Waterproof Sneaker is one of those shoes that looks like a stylish sneaker at first glance, but it also handles winter like a pro.
These keep your feet warm and dry even when the weather is pouring. Waterproof sneakers are not that easy to come by so these are perfect if you need something that will handle wet and cold rainy weather.
Plus you get the added bonus that these are comfy as well so you can wear them for long periods without your feet getting sore and tired. These are the perfect sneakers to wear when you are running errands, walking around town, or even when the weather isn’t exactly on your side.
By the way if you hate the black colour don’t worry they come in other variations as well.
Sneaker Boot Hybrid
Skechers Womens Uno Peaks – Moon Puffz
Finally for something a little more fun and wacky I had to add these sneaker moon boot hybrids by Sketchers.
The bottom half looks like a sneaker whilst the ankle portion has the puffy moon boot vibe. These are colorful and playful whilst also giving you some great protection from the colder weather.
Apart from the stand out design the real selling point of these is they are super comfortable. They have an air-cooled memory foam insole that makes them feel soft and wearable straight away. The airbag midsole also gives you a little bounce as well.
I’m also a fan of the soles which have a great grip because of that sawtooth design which means I’d feel safe wearing them even if it was wet of slippy.
I know these might not be for everyone but I kinda love them.
What Winter Trainers For Women Will You Choose?
As you can see my list of the best womens sneakers for winter is relatively diverse so hopefully there is something for everyone.
I always look for that sweet spot between everyday style, comfort and shoes I’ll genuinely want to wear on repeat. Some of these styles are perfect for chilly winter casual days whilst others work a little harder and give you some serious outdoor help when the weather is worse.
Whether you are sporty, fashion forward or just want something practical these winter ready sneakers show that it is possible to wear sneakers in the colder weather and still stay warm and dry.
