I love looking at the new footwear trends each year and deciding whether to hop on board or stay with my tried and tested rota of shoes and boots. This year is all about slim sneakers for women and I’ve already caught the bug and purchased a couple of pairs because they are perfect for my feet and my build.
Yes I know chunky trainers were once all the rage but I’m petite so they always looked ridiculour on my feet. However the new slimline low profile sneakers and sneakerinas look perfect with my frame and add an edge to my outfit. I think they remind me of Uma Thurman’s look in Kill Bill and whilst there is no way I can pull off her look I can wear the shoes that add to the cool factor.
If you want to get in on the trend here are a few of my favourites that epitomise the new look this year.

Low Prolile Sneakers That are On Trend This Year
Onitsuka Tiger Women’s Serrano Shoes
Slimline sneakers are having a real moment right now, and this brand is a champion of the look. These sneakers are inspired by track spikes in the 1970’s. The whole look of these sneakers is effortlessly cool as they don’t try too hard.
These are the kind of shoe that works well with relaxed tailoring, jeans or even a floaty dress because of their streamlined shape and retro sport look.
When you wear these you aren’t looking to be flashy. Instead you are wearing a modern minimalist sneaker which has the cool factor but is also comfortable. I love these sporty style shoes and so will you as they are perfect for this years look.
Adidas Tokyo Sneakers
My next pick are these Adidas sneakers that have a vintage energy about them that works with the current trends. They definitely tap into the retro runner vibes and are more refined than the chunky trainers we’ve seen over the last few years.
The silhouette is narrow, low to the ground and streamlined, which instantly gives outfits a lighter, more pulled-together feel. They’re ideal if you want your trainers to complement your look rather than dominate it.
What makes them especially appealing this year is how easy they are to style. They look just as good with relaxed denim and a simple tee as they do with wide-leg trousers or a midi skirt. There’s a subtle coolness to them, sporty, but not gym worthy, classic, but not boring. If you’re leaning into the slimline sneaker trend but still want something with recognisable heritage and comfort these Tokyo trainers hit that sweet spot perfectly.
Puma Speedcat Ballet Sneakers
My next choice are the slimline sneakers that got me seriously into this trend, the Puma Speedcat sneakerinas. I have difficulty finding comfortable shoes that work with my feet but when I bought these they instantly felt as if they had been made for me.
These come in a number of different colorways but I bought a pair that is all black and made of satin and suede. When I put them on they barely look like sneakers at all. If you choose the other two tone colors you get a more sporty vibe.
I love that these are a slip on style because of the elasticated front so I don’t have to waste time tying laces. In fact I adore this style so much I bought two pairs and am already starting to panic that they might discontinue them before I can buy more. These are currently my favorite footwear purchase of the year.
VIVAIA Women’s Cristina Square-Toe Sneakers
Next for a much more feminine looking slimline sneaker the Vivaia Cristina square toe sneakers that remind me of ballet shoes especially in this baby pink color.
These offer a fresh twist on the entire sneaker trend as they are modern, fashion forward and very different from your typical trainers. I like that these feel chic, smart and are definitely suitted for tailored looks and summer dresses rather than a total casual vibe.
The slimline shape keeps them feeling light underfoot, which makes them a go-to for all-day wear, whether you’re running errands, exploring a new city or meeting friends for brunch.
Just a few points that I do need to add. They have a satin upper finish which looks great but probably isn’t that suited to the wetter weather of autumn and winter. I would highly recommend using a sneaker protector spray on these before wearing them.
Regarding fit I love the elasticated backs that makes them less likely to rub so they are more comfortable.
In a season where subtle style details matter, these sneakers hit the sweet spot between comfort, chic and everyday versatility.
Adidas Women’s Barreda Mary Jane
Finally last but not least these Adidas Barredas brings a fresh twist to the slimline sneaker trend with a Mary Jane–inspired silhouette. Again this blends the sporty look with a touch of femininity.
Unlike typical trainers, these sneakers feature a low profile and a sleek, streamlined shape that feels modern and effortless. The distinctive strap detail adds personality without overpowering the look, making them perfect for women who want sneakers that feel a little different.
Again these are great slip on style sneakers that are comfortable but still feel sporty. You are in no doubt that these are not suitable for gym wear making them perfect to wear with skirts and dresses as well as denim.
Which Slim Trainers Style Do You Love?
As you can see each of these slim sneakers for women have their own unique look. Some look far more feminine whilst others are more sporty and retro.
I think I love the middle ground and can’t rave enough about the Speedcats I bought because of their comfort and versatility. I have been wearing them everywhere and am loving this years new trainer trend.
