Autumn is just around the corner so I thought I would talk about some of the most comfortable walking shoes to wear this fall when you are out and about.
To be clear I’m not talking about shoes that you use for long walks on uneven ground but footwear that is useful for walking around malls or strolling around the neighbourhood. These aren’t necessarily quick jaunts, although they can be, instead they are times when you one your feet for an hour or more at a time and want something comfortable to wear.
My days of wearing heels everywhere have long gone and now I’m all about comfort and style which generally means flat heeled shoes, sneaker and boots. I need products with cushioning, arch support and comfort so here are some of this years picks that I have my eye on.

Comfortable Slip On Sneakers for Fall
Keds Women’s Pursuit Slip on Sneaker
I’ll start by mentioning these Keds slip on sneakers. Why slip-ons? Well not everyone is flexible enough to bend down, tie up laces and mess around doing up buckles or velcro.
Slip-on sneakers are easy and I’m all about making things as simple for myself as I can. With sneakers like these all I need to do is slot my feet into them and go. Those elastic side panels make it easy for them to stretch to fit and I’m ready for my day.
I like how unfussy these are and how they are built for comfort. These have a cushioned footbed and a padded collar to make them really easy to wear.
Plus as I’m talking about shoes for fall these have a leather upper which makes them easier to wear when the weather isn’t perfect. Whilst they aren’t waterproof they are certainly better than canvas sneakers.
I chose this brown style but there are plenty of other colors to choose from if you want a different look.
Comfortable Chelsea Boots That Are Perfect For Autumn Weather
Sam Edelman Women’s, Lue Boot
My next pick of the most comfortable walking shoes to wear this fall is actually a pair of boots. Chelsea boots to be exact. This style of boot is timeless and works perfectly for the wetter weather.
Again these are easy pull on boots with a lugged sole that gives you that extra traction that you need in the wetter weather. They are also waterproof which means that you can still wear them when it is pouring down outside.
These are the perfect boots to use on wetter days without worryign about your feet getting soaking wet. Pair them with thick socks and they should also be warm enough on colder days as well. These are a great closet staple.
Sporty Sneakers
Sorel Women’s Kinetic Impact Ii Wonder Lace Sneaker
I couldn’t have a list of shoes for fall without mentioning sneakers so I thought I’d talk about one of my favorite brands at the moment which is Sorel.
These are the perfect on-trend sneakers because of their amazing wavy sole that makes them stand out from so many other brands. Even though these are super comfortable they don’t age you and instead enhance your outfit. I’d wear these with jeans, skirts or dresses.
It’s worth noting that these also have good arch support which is great for someone like me who needs footwear that concentrates on foot health as well as style.
Ballet Flats Can Work In Cooler Weather
Vionic Women’s Klara Ballet Flats
Ballet flats believe it or not can also work in fall. Sure you don’t want to wear them when it is pouring down or icy but I wear them all the time when I am shopping or going to work.
Whilst ballet flats aren’t designed to be walked in for miles a good quality pair like these from Vionic are comfortable on my feet for short or medium strolls.
One of my favorite brands that make great orthopedic flats are Vionic. The have everything from great arch support, to cushioning and a deep heel cup so they are going to be one of the best styles you can get if you want to wear them for longer periods.
I own four or five pairs of their flats and they work brilliantly. The only brand I find that comes close to their comfort is Fitflop who also does a great line footwear line focusing on comfort.
Loafers Are the Pefect Fall Shoe
Coach Women’s Leah Platform Loafer
When you want a smarter shoe that works for the office but that can also be worn casually then a pair of loafers will never go out of style.
I’m not a fan of too much bling or over embellishment which is why these Coach loafers are perfect in all black.
These are stylish and timeless and will look good with everything from jeans to suits at work.
Plus they are perfect for colder wetter weather as they cover the entire foot and are slightly elevated to stop your feet getting submerged in puddles.
Lace Up Sneakers
Dr. Scholl’s Women’s Time Off Sneaker
I know that plenty of people prefer lace up sneakers to slip-on’s so I thought I would include a pair in my list of comfortable walking shoes to wear this fall.
Dr.Scholl is another great brand that sells orthopedic footwear and has been around for years. I used to have a pair of their clogs in the 80’s.
Now they have branched out into fashionable sneakers that are super comfortable and look great as well.
White might not be the best color to keep clean in wet weather but the brand does do other colors and materials in the same design that are less likely to show the dirt.
Knee High Boots For Colder Days
Vionic Women’s Ashland High Shaft Boots
Another footwear suggestion and yet again I’ve chosen a pair by Vionic because I love their boots and shoes.
These knee high leather boots are great for those colder days when you want to cover your legs with something to keep you warm. Wear jeans with them tucked into the boot or alternatively wear them with a dress or a skirt and tights to keep your legs from freezing.
I’ve also chosen these boots because of the elastic panel on the back. So many people have a problem fitting into boots with a zip as they have wider calves. This elastic panel gives you that little bit extra wiggle room so they are more likely to fit.
If you have a real problem with boot sizes I have a whole post on how to alter boots so they fit wide calves that you can read for tips on how to make them bigger.
Ankle Boots for Fall Weather
Clarks Women’s Maye Bella Ankle Boot
Finally last but not least of my best comfortable walking shoes for fall are these black leather ankle boots with a stacked block heel.
Whilst I do like heeled black boots when we are talking about comfort then flat footwear will always win.
These have a cushioned footbed for comfort which means they are easy to wear for long periods. These are great to wear with jeans or trousers and will last for years if you look after them properly.
Plus when you choose ankle boots you never have to worry about your calf size which means there is no worrying about fit.
I hope this roundup helps you find the perfect pair for all your fall adventures. These are shoes I’ve either worn myself or have on my wishlist because comfort is everything when you’re out and about this season. If you’ve got a go-to pair of comfy walking shoes you swear by, drop a comment and let me know as I’m always looking for new favorites!
