Flats are my go-to shoes no matter the season and they are one of my closet staples for spring. I need shoes that are comfortable so whilst I might love high heels they don’t always love me back!
Flats work with just bout any outfit and can be dressed up or kept casual. So I always find myself reaching for a great pair of flats or sneakers over heels because they are easy to wear and won’t hurt my feet.
From classic ballet flats to chic loafers and trendy pointed-toe styles, there are so many options to choose from and I have a ton of them in my wardrobe.
In this post, I’m going to share some of my favorite spring flat shoe designs that never date and are perfect for building your own shoe library.

Espadrilles As Spring Shoes
landing craft Espadrilles Flats
Let’s start with a controversial design for spring shoes and that is espadrilles. Traditionally these are associated with the summer months but if the weather is mild and it is a beautiful spring day they can work well in the shoulder seasons as well.
Whilst espadrilles don’t work that well in the rain they are great to wear when the sun is shining and work well with jeans or floaty dresses.
The ultimate flat espadrille design is of course the black and cream Chanel iconic shoe. This season they are also selling them in pastel pink and yellow. However most of us can’t afford to spend that sort of money on footwear so I have found these close dupes instead.
These have a soft leather upper that constrasts with canvas. These shoes are breathable, slip on and have hidden elastic in the sides to make sure they don’t fall off.
At a fraction of the price of the original designer pair you can get the same look on a budget. Just note that these run small so make sure you check the sizing charts.
Spring Flats For Work
Cole Haan Women’s Lana Lux Tassel Loafers Flat
Next up are leather loafers. Unlike espadrilles which can’t cope with the rain these are the perfect transitional shoes that can work well in winter and in spring.
Loafers are perfect for wearing to work if you choose a smart style. Alternatively dress them down with jeans and a jumper.
I’m partial to these black loafers with a tassel detail which make them a classic shoe. You can of course find loafers in just about every color now so if you want to go for something brighter you are bound to find something that you can buy.
Spring Ballet Flats
Sam Edelman Women’s Felicia Luxe Ballet Flat
Ok now we come to possibly my favorite spring flat shoe designs of all time and that is the ballet flat.
My feet don’t love much of a heel so ballet flats work really well for me because they are super comfortable.
Ballet flats are the perfect spring shoe because they’re lightweight, versatile, and effortlessly stylish. They pair beautifully with everything from flowy dresses to cropped jeans, making them my go-to choice for warmer weather.
The ballet flat design never goes our of style either which means when you buy a pair you are investing in a great wardrobe staple.
This pair comes in a range of different colors and is leather. Try if you can to pay a little more for leather ballet flats as they will last longer and they will be breathable keeping your feet more comfortable.
Mary Jane Styles for Warmer Weather
Steve Madden Women’s Violette Mary Jane Flat
A close second to my ballet flat obsession is my mary-jane flats collection.
These aren’t really that much different from ballet shoes apart from the strap which goes across the front of the foot.
This pair from Steve Madden have a buckle fastening but you can find some which are more of a slip-on style if you don’t like messing around putting your shoes on.
They also come in a range of different colors to suit your mood and outfit.
Sneakers For Spring
Veja Women Campo Sneakers Black – White
Spring flat shoe designs lists wouldn’t be complete without my next pick!
When I am not rushing around in my ballet flats or mary-janes I turn to my trusty sneakers. These are perfect for more casual settings and are the ultimate comfort shoe.
Sneakers aren’t really a work shoe unless you are in a really laid back workplace but they are perfect for when I am shopping or running errands. I like mine with plenty of cushioning and room for my feet which is why these ones with a round toe really work.
Obviously you can buy sneakers in a whole range of colors but white ones are great for spring and summer. Try not to wear them on miserable rainy days otherwise you are going to be spending a lot of time cleaning them however when the weather is finer they are a great shoe to wear.
If you are worried about cleaning them then definitely choose these Veja ones as they can be machine washed which makes looking after them so much easier.
Wearing Mules In Transitional Months
Vertundy Women’s Mules Low Heel
Mules are big right now and are a great transitional shoe for spring. With the front closed section most of your foot remains protected from the elements leaving only your heel open at the back.
Mules come in all sorts of shapes and sizes but if you want a luxe look that works well with casual clothing then a horsebit loafer style shoe is a winner.
Gucci had the ultimate design but luckily the high street has plenty of similar dupes like these that allow you to get the look for less.
Pointed Toe Shoes and Slingbacks
C.Paravano Women’s Slingback Flats Pointed Toe Slingback Shoes
I tend to wear rounder toe shoes because of my feet but I love the look of pointed toe flats.
If you don’t have a foot problem pointed toes can really add something to an outfit and make an impact.
These pointed toe flats also have a slingback which is another nod to the warmer spring weather. This particular brand makes these in a huge range of colors so there is bound to be something that suits your needs.
Spring Sandals
Birkenstock Women’s Boston Soft Footbed Sandals
For a much more comfortable casual vibe then I had to add Birkenstocks to my list of spring flat shoe designs.
Birkenstocks are the ultimate casual sandal and are great to wear outside as well as inside the house.
I’ve chosen this Boston design for spring as your toes don’t have to see daylight and the soft fur material will keep them warm if you get a colder day. When the summer comes switch to an Arizona sandal so that you can feet can get some warmer air.
Whilst Birkenstocks aren’t cheap they last for a long time and can also be repaired.
Moccasins and Driving Shoes
Michael Kors Womens Mandy Loafer Moccasin
Another great footwear item for a casual look is a pair of moccasins. These moccasins from Michael Kors are perfect to wear when you are running errands or driving around in your car.
Todds sell the ultimate driving style moccasin but they are spendy so if they don’t suit your budget look to these instead.
These are slip on and go shoes which is great if you have a busy lifestyle and they are available in a number of different colors as well.
D’Orsay Shoes
TOMS Women’s, Jutti D’Orsay Flat
Finally I had to menton the often forgotten D’Orsay flat design which simply means there is a cut out in the middle of the shoe.
As a spring flat shoe design this works well because most of your feet is covered leaving on a small part exposed to the elements.
Whilst you wouldn’t want to wear these in bad weather they work well for spring days.
TOMS also sell the Alpargata shoes with are a particular favorite with my sister in law. These can also work well and have a more casual look than this design which could be worn to work.
Spring Flats for Women – What’s Your Favorite Design?
So which spring flats shoe design was your favorite and have I missed any designs.
Hopefully the styles I have chose give you enough options so that you have a shoe to work for every occasion. These shoes should make it easy to transition from day to night or from casual to formal depending on your outfit and the weather.
Just remember stylish is great but so is comfortable so make sure you choose spring flats that work with your feet and your’ll be able to stop into this new season with confidence.
