Mini Skirts: The Best Shoes to Elongate and Elevate Your Look
My days of wearing mini skirts might be over but for those of you who still love this short flirty style that showcases your legs then the right shoes can really make a difference.
My top four shoes that work really well with this style are:
Flat Strappy Sandals
These are ideal for summer days when you want to keep things light and carefree. Opt for metallic or embellished styles for a bit of sparkle or do what I do and stick to neutral colors so that they match any outfit.
Lucky Brand Kimaya Sandals
Ballet Flats
I’m a sucker for ballet flats as they are a timeless choice that brings a touch of class to even the shortest skirt. Look for pointed toes to elongate the legs or try a bold color to add some personality. Mary-Jane flats are a close second and very popular right now.
Tory Burch Minnie Ballet Flats
Strappy Heeled Sandals
These are perfect to wear if you want to dress your look up for a night out. Thin straps and a stiletto heel can instantly elevate a simple mini skirt. Just remember to keep it classy rather than trashy!
Sam Edelman Gemmie Ankle Strap
High Pumps
These are the ultimate leg-lengthening shoe. Nude tones create the illusion of miles-long legs, while black pumps bring sophistication and polish.
As a bonus don’t forget sneakers which work well if you are looking for a more casual look.

How to Style Shoes with Mid-Thigh Skirts for a Balanced Outfit
Mid-thigh skirts sit just a touch longer than minis, offering a bit more coverage whilst still showing off your legs. They offer slightly more versatility, making them suitable for work or play depending on how you style them.
My Top Shoe Picks for Mid-Thigh Skirts:
Flat strappy sandals, ballet flats and strappy sandals all work well with this length of skirt so the many of the mini looks can work with the mid thigh look.
I would also add wedge sandals and shoes to this list. You can choose the height you want but a mid-heel is a classier look and more suitable for work.

Footwear That Works Perfectly with Knee-Length Skirts
Knee-length skirts are a go-to for professional and modest fashion, but that doesn’t mean your shoe choice has to be boring.
Low to Mid Heel Wedges
These work well with knee length skirts. Closed toes are better for work unless your workplace has a more lax dress policy. Save your wedge sandals for your leisure time.
Slingback Shoes With a Kitten Heel
If you have ever seen Mad Men and know the character Joan Harris then you’ll know this look well. Slingbacks can be stylish and elegant when paired with a knee length skirt. Stick to neutral colors in a working environment.

Classic Heeled Pumps
For a more conservative workplace classic heeled pumps are always in style. In casual settings you can go super high but at work try and keep it stylish and look at wearing heels of a mid height with a closed toe.
Knee High Boots
For colder months knee high boots also look good with knee length skirts. Try and make sure they have some type of heel on them. They don’t have to be really high but just enough to elongate the leg. Stiletto heeled boots with a pointed toe also look great.

Shoe Pairings That Flatter Midi Skirts
Midi skirts are one of my favorite styles because the length is more elegant, falling anywhere from just below the knee to mid-calf. They can however be tricky to style because of their leg-shortening effect. As ever the right shoes make all the difference.
Flat Ballet Pumps and Sneakers
Classic ballet pumps always tend to look good with midi skirts and are easy to walk in which is why I have a whole closet full of them. For a more casual look sneakers can look good. If you want a bit of height look for ones with a slight platform.

Loafers
In the fall and winter I also wear loafers with my midi skirts. They are easy to walk in, perfect for the colder and wetter months and they look stylish as well. The classic penny loafer style simply doesn’t date.

Slingback Kitten Heels
Slingback kitten heels can look good if you want to dress up your skirt. I like them because the lower heel height means they are easier to wear but you can wear heeled pumps if you don’t mind the extra inches.
Heeled Boots
Finally heeled boots work well with a midi skirt. Most styles look good but I like a block or classic style heel because they are more versatile.
Maxi Skirts and Shoes: Finding the Perfect Match
Finally I have to of course mention maxi skirts which tend to be more dramatic, flowy, and often a statement piece. The goal with footwear when wearing a long skirt is to stay comfortable and stylish but make sure that the skirt doesn’t overpower your frame.
My top favorites for a maxi skirt include:
Flat Sandals and Sneakers
Flat strappy sandals look create with certain maxi skirts and can give you a little bit of a boho vibe depending on the material. For more casual modern looks stick to sneakers. White sneakers go with everything or alternatively wear sneakers in a pop of color to contrast with your skirt so they get noticed.
High Wedges
High Wedge sandals also look great and balance our the length of the skirt. These are perfect for summer parties or events.
Heeled Ankle Boots
In winter dust off your heeled ankle boots to keep your feet dry and warm. Ankle boots work so well with maxi skirts especially when you are looked for a more chic neutral look.
Style Tip: Just make sure your shoes don’t get lost under a maxi skirt. A bit of elevation (even a small heel) helps to maintain balance and avoids dragging hems.

Skirt Length Meets Shoe Style Guidance
Finding what shoes go with every skirt length doesn’t have to be a guessing game. As a general rule, balance is key: shorter skirts often benefit from shoes that ground the look or add length, while longer skirts look best with footwear that gives a little lift or contrast.
Experiment with different combinations to find what feels most authentic to your personal style. Remember there are no real fashion rules so you don’t have to stick with my suggestions. Find out what works for your look and try it out.
