When I travel to warmer countries I always like to pack a pair of comfortable walking sandals in my suitcase. Yes I tend to wear sneakers some of the time but when the sun is splitting the trees I need something on my feet that doesn’t make me overheat.
Whilst it would be lovely to pick any sandal that I like I know that most of them will not like me! I need something that feels great on my feet after long days exploring and something that is stylish enough for casual dinners out as well.
Over the years, I’ve tried plenty of options with mixed results but over time I’ve learned exactly what to look for. In this post, I’ll share the sandals I swear by for holidays as well as everyday wear at home, so you can stay comfortable walking around without sacrificing on style.

Best Comfortable Walking Sandals That Look Stylish
I’ll start by talking about my three go to brands first. I know that all of these three footwear brands make shoes that offer great support, are cushioned and comfortable plus they are great quality. So when I start my search for a pair of summer walking sandals begin by looking at what these companies have to offer before anyone else.
Vionic Sandals
Vionic footwear is the brand I probably own more of than anyone else. As I have a tendonitis and occasional plantar fasciitis I have to have sandals that are not only cushioned but that give me great arch support. This company has a huge range of styles to choose from and all of them look great (not old fashioned) plus they have the cushioning and support I need.
Vionic Women’s Mar Sandal
My first pick is their Mar Sandal. I love them in black because they go with everything but they also come in camel, gold and cream which are all great neutral colors.
As well as having great cushioning these also have an adjustable ankle strap which allows me to fit them more securely to my feet. They also look good enough to wear in the evening when I am out which not all comfortable walking sandals do.
Vionic Women’s Walk Max Wanderer Sandal
For a sportier style sandal then opt for these which are probably better if you are walking on more rugged terrain as they have the flexible sole. These adjust across the front and ankle with a hook and loop.
Vionic offers these in a range of colors so you should find something you like that will work for particular needs.
FitFlop Footwear
The next brand I tend to look at is FitFlop who are famous for their version of flip-flops. Whilst many people love these I tend to avoid them because they don’t offer me enough support and instead look for their sandals that have more secure strapping to help keep them on my feet.
FitFlop Women’s Open Toe Sandals
Their open toe style with a criss cross design at the front is perfect for me as it is more secure plus they have an adjustable back strap which allows me to get a better fit.
The key selling point with their sandals is that they are comfortable, have great cushioning plus they have the support I need that allows me to walk in them all day.
Whilst I might not wear these for long treks they are great for sightseeing or for walking around in all day.
Clarks Sandals
Finally my third go to brand when I start my sandal search is a UK company called Clarks. When I was a teenager I used to hate them as they supplied my school shoes and I thought they were old fashioned but the brand has changed substantially over the past few years.
Firstly Clarks got in new designers that are creating more on trend styles which make them more sought after. Plus I’ve grown up and realised that the uber fashionable shoes that I used to try and cram my feet into when I was younger were killing my feet! Now I actively keep an eye on their new styles and buy pairs that I like.
Yes you can still find styles that are old fashioned on their website but there are plenty of acceptable designs that are perfect if you want something comfortable to walk in.
Clarks Women’s Glide Hi Ella Wedge Sandal
These Ella sandals area a case in point. They are soft and breathable and have cushioning and support. I can adjust the straps to get the fit that I need plus they have EVA in the footbed which helps with comfort and shock absorption.
Another bonus is that Clarks tend to be cheaper than the first two brands so if you are on a budget you might want to start here first.
How to Find Stylish Sandals with Great Arch Support
The fact is that many brands still haven’t worked out that many of us want stylish comfortable walking sandals rather than old fashioned looking pairs that even my grandmother wouldn’t have worn. Just because we need support and cushioning doesn’t mean we should compromise on style however it can be an uphill battle finding something that fits the brief.
There are however some designers that have taken on the challenge and have come up with some great alternatives. I should warn you that these options are of course not always the cheapest.
Tory Burch Women’s Kira Two Band Sport Sandals
Whilst I’ve already mentioned by go-t0 brands I have spotted some amazing designer pairs that I wanted to share. The first are these Tory Burch sport sandals.
Yes they are pricey in comparison to the others but you are paying for an elevated look which is really hard to find. I’m coveting these right now as they would be perfect for my summer holidays.
Steve Madden Women’s Mona Sandal
If you are looking for a cheaper branded version of these then Steve Madden also sells a similar looking pair. Once again these are neutral and stylish and perfect for wearing in the warmer months.
Top Walking Sandals for Travel and Everyday Wear
Although I mentioned my favorite brands for picking my summer sandals there are another few notable large brands that are worth looking at. These aren’t necessarily my top choices but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I thought I would talk about three other notable companies that make good footwear for walking which are Sketchers, Teva and Crocs.
Skechers Women’s Ultra Flex 3.0 – Never Netter Hands Free Slip-ins
Whilst I have chosen these sandals from Sketchers it is fair to say that they have a large range of different options that you can choose from if you are in the market for a new summer sandal.
I am a little on the fence with Sketchers. I do own a number of their trainers but I have been less convinced with most of their sandal styles. However I thought I would mention this pair because they are slip-ins and if like me you have problems bending down and doing up shoes and sandals this feature is a blessing.
All you need to do is slip them on your feet and go and you ready to walk. I have their slip in trainers and they work brilliantly without be pfaffing around trying to get my heels in properly at the back. No doubt all the other brands will soon be copying this design feature.
Teva Women’s Original Universal Sandal
I couldn’t mention comfortable walking sandals without talking abou the brand Teva which is hugely popular especially amongst backpackers. These are huge sellers because of their minimalist design and because you can wear them in and around water without ruining them.
I personally am not a fan of the design but hundreds of thousands of other buyers can’t be wrong so if you like the look go get a pair. At least they are practical and lightweight if you have luggage.
Crocs Unisex-Adult Classic Hiker Escape Clogs
Finally I have to mention Crocs and in particular their new clogs that they have designed for hiking and walking.
I have to say I absolutely could never bring myself to wear a pair no matter who is trying to make them trendy (Justin Bieber). Whilst I am not alone in thinking they are fugly shoes there are plenty of people out there who don’t care and will wear them everywhere.
Once again they are practical and comfortable so that is probably why but I just can’t get over the look of them.
Tips for Choosing Fashionable and Comfortable Walking Shoes
Just remember that when you are choosing fashionable and comfortable walking sandals it is always best to look for ones that offer you a balance of style, support, and durability.
Try and prioritize sandals that have cushioned insoles, arch support, and breathable materials to keep your feet comfortable during the day when you are walking around.
I like to opt for versatile designs that work well with different outfits. This means I choose neutral colors, sleek silhouettes and minimalist styles that are more likely to work with everything in my closet. I also like to look for adjustable straps or laces so I can get a better fit as well as lightweight flexible soles which make it easier to move around.
Lastly try and choose a good brand that specializes in comfort footwear such as the ones I have already mentioned as you are going to usually get a better quality sandal that lasts longer.
