When Did FitFlops Come Out?

The FitFlop brand was first launched in 2007 so the company is relatively new. It was the brainchild of Marcia Kilgore who had already founded a successful beauty brand but who then branched out into the footwear market.

The first FitFlop product that was launched was the WalkstarTM sandal. This was created by Marcia Kilgore in collaboration with Darren James and Dr David Cook who were biomechanists who studied the way in which the body moved.

Between them, they came up with a unique product that had a new innovative shoe midsole which was known as the MicrowobbleboardTM. This new technology was designed to help the footwear be more comfortable and cushioned by reducing pressure on the feet.

When the brand first sold its products it was really considered a health and fitness brand because the sandals were supposed to tone your legs however most people fell in love with the products because they felt great on your feet.

Over time the company has continued to innovate and created further footwear with technological advances such as Anatomicush, Supercomff and iquishion which are all trademarked footwear designs. The common denominator however with all their products is that they are really easy to wear and consumers like me love them because they are stylish and don’t cause foot pain.

Is FitFlop a British Company?

Yes FitFlop could definitely be considered a British company as it was founded in London in 2007.

The founder of the company however Marcia Kilgore is actually Canadian.

Where Are FitFlop Headquarters

Currently, FitFlop has its corporate headquarters in the UK and is based in Hammersmith.

The address of the headquarters is:

4th Floor,

Foundry Building,

77 Fulham Palace Rd,

London W6 8AF

Whilst this is the corporate headquarters of the brand they also have offices in New York, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Berlin.

What are FitFlop Shoes and Sandals?

FitFlop is a footwear brand that was originally based around health and wellness. Its founder Marcia Kilgore created the brand and marketed it with a unique selling point which was that the footwear had health benefits such as improving the muscle tone in your legs and body. As time has moved on the focus of the brand has now centered on the comfort level of the shoes and their benefits to your feet.

FitFlops right from the beginning were designed ergonomically with biomechanically engineered footbeds that we designed to help keep the body in alignment and reduce any joint and muscle strain. The idea is that the shoes support a normal walking gait and in doing so help ease discomfort and foot pain.

Their collaboration with podiatrists and biomechanics experts makes them stand out from the crowd and makes them some of the most comfortable footwear you can buy. When I wear their shoes I find that I never even have to break them in which makes wearing them so easy.  This is probably why Oprah Winfrey sings their praises.

Whilst FitFlops are great for natural movement and supportive shoes and sandals the designs are also incredibly fashionable which has made them stand out from their competitors.

As the brand has created more and more designs it now offers a large range of shoes, boots, sandals, clogs and sneakers in great quality materials for its customers to buy.

Who Owns FitFlops?

Marcia is no longer a director of Fitflops and currently the CEO of the company is Gianni Georgiades.

Gianni has a great track record of working with fashion brands including Lacoste, Coach and UGG.

What Is Special About FitFlops?

FitFlop products have a number of unique selling points that make their customers love the brand. These include:

The Technology

As I discussed earlier FitFlops have been an innovator when it comes to technology. By taking a technical approach they are able to create more comfortable and supportive shoes that make it easier for their customers to use.

The Ergonomic Design

Ergonomics matter and the FitFlop founder knew that by creating the right footwear it would help to minimize strain on other parts of the body. This is why FitFlops can help to create better body alignment and help stop poor posture which can be the source of problems not just in the feet but in the rest of the body as well.

The Biomechanically Engineer Footbeds

The footbeds on FitFlop shoes are what make all the difference as they support the arches which is great if you have flat feet, they are cushioned and they are supportive as well.

The Styles

What drew me to the brand was the fact that they had some great styles of shoes and sandals which were relatively fashion-forward. Many brands can be good with comfort but the shoes wouldn’t be something I would want to wear because they look old-fashioned.

The Comfort

Comfort for me is key now in any shoes and boots that I buy. Whilst I might have put up with some uncomfortable shoes in my teens and twenties I have grown older and wiser and now I want my shoes to feel like I am walking on clouds.

FitFlops are one of the few brands that I can put on my feet and wear straightaway without breaking them in because of the softer leather and cushioning on the footbed.

Quality

Quality also matters to me which is why I am happy to pay a little more for shoes that last. FitFlop uses premium leather and fabrics and they are really durable which means I save money in the long term.

Most Popular Styles By The Brand

FitFlop Thong Sandals

FitFlops Thong Sandals are one of the biggest sellers and I see hundreds of people wearing them in the summertime as a more supportive version of Flip-Flops.

Customers love these because they are super comfortable and practical but they also have the American Podiatric Medical Association seal of approval for promoting good foot health.

These are great if you have a slightly wider foot and want a little extra height as they have a 1-inch platform. Plus they are slip resistant which is great if you are walking anywhere that you need a little extra traction.

FitFlop Ballet Flats

Whilst some people love their sandals my favorite in the collection are the FitFlop Allegro Ballet Flats.

These are honestly one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes that I have ever worn. The leather isn’t too hard which means they don’t rub in the wrong places and they have great cushioning for shock absorption and comfort. They also help support my arches as well.

These are smart enough to wear to work but also easy enough to dress down if you are going out. I love their versatility and buy them time and time again as they are one of my wardrobe staples.

FitFlop Sneakers

FitFlops also have a great range of different sneakers which are ideal for wearing if you want to do long-distance walking and need something comfortable and robust enough to wear.
These FitFlop Rally Sneakers are great-looking casual footwear and I love the leather and suede design.
These are durable sneakers that have a wide toe box so your feet aren’t squashed and have a soft lining on the insole for comfort.
Whilst these are incredibly durable they also have a number of features for extra comfort. The padded collar and tongue for example help make them easy to wear but also help with ankle support. The midsole is lightweight making them easy to walk in plus the insole is padded but also removable if you want to add your own instead.
