I have suffered from calluses ever since I was young and over the years I have tried just about every method on the market to try and get baby soft feet. After a lot of trial and error and plenty of wasted money I’ve finally got a shortlist of the best callus removers and devices that I use regularly that deliver results.
So If you have rough heels, hard patches or pesky calluses on your toes and balls of your feet these are my top picks. Sometimes you will need to use a combination of the products but unless your feet need to be medically treated by a podiatrist these should do the trick.

Callus Shaver Blades
Best for: Thick, stubborn heel calluses
I’ll start with the heavy hitter and the prodcut I probably use most and that is a callus remover blade.
Yes, it looks a little scary but once you learn how to use it gently this tool is unbeatable for taking off hard, thick layers of dead skin in just a few passes.
I know some people swear by using it on dry feet but I only ever use it after soaking my feet for 15-20 minutes first in water and an Epsom salt foot bath. This softens up the hard skin on the calluses making it easier to remove.
Just remember when you are using the shaver take your time and don’t rush as it can cut you if you are not careful. Make sure that the blade is sharp and clean before you use it and never go too deep. If you are diabetic the exercise extra caution and check with a health care professional first before using them.
I tend to use the blade to take off the hardest layers of skin and then follow up with a foot file to smooth the rest.
Once I’ve finished I slather my feet in cream and my feet instantly feel better.
Oh and a final word of warning. Try not to use this more than once every two or three weeks otherwise you could cause problems.
Diamancel Foot File
Best for: Spa-quality smoothing and finishing
There are foot files and then there is a Diamancel foot file! Over the years I must have tried every foot file there is but I usually found them either too rough or completely ineffective. So I splashed out on a Diamancel foot file and I was sold.
It might be on the pricey side but I have had mine for probably 15 years not and it still looks as good as new.
It’s made with industrial diamond grit and it smooths my calluses and dry skin on my feet without any problem at all.
I usually use the Diamancel file right after I’ve used a callus remover blade or electric fil as a final polish step. It smooths everything out beautifully and preps my skin for a moisturizing foot cream for dry feet.
Electric Callus Remover
Best for: Quick daily or weekly touch-ups
Whilst my shaver and foot file are reserved for more intensive foot pampering sessions I do like to have something I can use inbetween these times. This is when an little electric callus remover works well.
These are fast and cordless and can be used a couple of times during the week to keep skin smooth.
The rotating heads on these are really gentle at removing dry skin and of course it is less aggressive than a blade. So I use this for maintenance to keep my feet from getting out of control and having to do bit callus removal sessions as often.
Foot Peel Masks
Best for: Hands-free, no-fuss exfoliation
Three or four times a year I take things to another level and put on a foot peel mask. These were a game changer when they first came out and unlike anything I have ever tried before.
You put these on your feet like socks for around an hour and let the product work its magic. When you have finished you just rinse your feet and get on with your life.
The shock comes a few days later when any hard skin starts to peel off your feet in strips. This shedding process takes 2 to 3 days and leaves you with the most perfect baby soft feet afterwards.
They’re perfect if you want a mess-free, no-tools-required solution and you can wear them when you watch Netflix.
You don’t need to use these too often as they do take more time than my typical foot care routines but they are great to use before holidays or events. Just make sure you do them a couple of weeks in advance of your trip as you don’t want to be wearing sandals with skin peeling off for everyone to see.
I have a recipe for a homemade foot peel mask as an alternative if you prefer to make your own products at home.
Callus Removing Gel
Best for: Softening calluses and preventing buildup
No routine is complete without a good callus remover gel. These are relatively new on the market and work in 5 or 10 minutes.
All you need to do is soak your feet and then apply this product to any problem areas. Leave in on for 5 or so minutes and then use a foot file to get rid of the skin it has removed.
Just keep in mind that this stuff can be strong so you need to wear gloves when you apply it. Plus you want to make sure you have no cuts or wounds on your feet as this stuff will sting.
This is a great tool if you want faster results and a new type of product that I am just getting used to.
These are the best calluse removers that I know of without visiting a podiatrist who will do the job for you however that is costly and time consuming.
Which Of The Best Callus Removers For Feet Will You Try?
You don’t need a professional pedicure every month to have soft, smooth feet, you just need the right tools and a little consistency. These are the callus removers that I find work the best. I don’t tend to use just one tool but a combination and find that between them they keep my feet soft and supple.
If you’re new to foot care, start with one or two of these and build from there. Trust me, once you feel the difference, you’ll never go back to ignoring your feet again.
Let me know if you try any of these or have your own go-to callus busters. Smooth feet are always worth the effort!
