Are New UGGS Supposed To Be Tight?
The fact is that when you buy a new pair of UGG boots you should find that they are relatively snug on your foot. They shouldn’t feel uncomfortable but you might find that your feet don’t have much room to move around inside the boot.
This is because of the sheepskin which is usually relatively fluffy and full when you first put the footwear on your feet. Many people feel that UGG boots are tight to get on but this is usually only a temporary problem.
As you wear your leather sheepskin boots you should find that the wool inside will start to flatten giving your feet and toes more room.
Do UGG Boots Stretch?
Whilst the flattening of the sheepskin wool in your boots makes them appear larger that does not mean that they have stretched. It simply means that the flattened space has created extra room inside the boots.
However, genuine sheepskin leather will also stretch naturally with wear so the boots will tend to mold to your foot and leg shape the more you walk in them over time.
As you use your boots expect them to increase by around a half size.
How Long Does it Take For UGGS To Stretch Out?
UGG Boots usually take around one month to fully stretch out or be broken in. During that time you may feel that the size of the boots has increased by as much as a half size.
Using some of the methods that I outline below can help to speed up this process as can wearing them every day. Regular use will obviously stretch the boots faster and allow them to adapt to your feet.
Just note that you want to be careful not to use the stretching methods too soon or you could make the boots too big for you to wear.

How Can I Stretch My UGGs AT Home? Use a Shoe Stretcher
If you have tried breaking in your UGG boots at home and find that they are still not a comfortable fit then you could think about investing in a boot stretcher to help. Learning how to stretch UGG boots doesn’t have to be difficult if you invest in one of these devices.
Boot stretchers come in different materials and sizes and are designed to gently stretch your footwear to make it less snug. A good boot stretcher can help you to create the extra space you need inside your boots without much effort from you.
A four-way boot stretcher is your best bet if you are looking to increase the length of your boot or width so that you expand the toe box area and front section of your boot. These are great devices if you have wide feet or suffer from problems such as bunions that mean you need a slightly larger-than-normal fit.
If you are having a problem with the height of the instep then you need to look for an instep stretcher. This will allow you more room between the top of your foot and the boot.
These boot stretcher devices work relatively quickly and are simple products to use to allow you to adjust your shoes and boots to a better fit for you.
Using a Stretching Spray to Increase The Size of Your Footwear
If you want to know how to stretch UGG boots look on Amazon and search for shoe stretching sprays.
Fiebings Shoe Stretch It is a perfect example of a product that will work well on leather, suede, and nubuck shoes to increase their size. This product can be used in conjunction with shoe stretchers or on its own.
All you need to do is spray the product inside your boots and then place them on your feet and start to wear them. The pressure from your foot together with the spray will expand the material and increase the size of your boots.
This product is not toxic which means that it will not cause a problem if it gets on your skin or if you get any on your clothes. Shoe stretcher sprays are a simple and easy product to use and cost very little.
If you don’t want to wear your boots while the spray is working its magic you can choose to use a shoe stretcher device to help expand your footwear.
Stretching UGG Boots With Rubbing Alcohol
You can make your own DIY UGG stretching spray by using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water to do the same as a professional product.
Get a spray bottle and mix 1 part rubbing alcohol with 1 part water and then shake the bottle.
Spray this product inside your shoes or UGG boots and start to walk about in the footwear to get the stretch. If you don’t want to get soggy feet when using this method use this DIY mixture in conjunction with a boot stretcher to take the place of your foot.
Make a Boot Bigger By Using Your Freezer
One of the classic cheap ways to try and stretch any form of leather boot or shoe is by using your freezer. All you need are a couple of freezer plastic bags and some water.
Get one of the freezer bags and fill it at least halfway with water and seal it. For extra security, you can then place that in another freezer bag so no water can get out.
Now place that plastic bag into the section of the boot you are looking to stretch.
Next, get your boot and cover it in another bag so water or ice from the freezer can’t get to it and place it in the freezer for at least 24 hours.
What should happen is that the water turns to ice and expands and this then creates pressure on the material of your boots which should stretch.
You may need to repeat this process a few times to get the boots the size you want them.
Use a Hairdryer
I’ve talked about using a hairdryer for stretching boots and shoes in a number of my posts. This is a simple and cheap way to get your boots to expand but you need to make sure you are not using too much heat.
Simply put on your UGGS and aim the hairdryer at your boots. Put the setting on low if you have the option and make sure the dryer is not directly on top of your boots. Aim to keep a space of 5 or 6 inches between the two to prevent your boots from overheating.
When you are applying heat use the dryer in short bursts for twenty seconds or so at a time and wriggle your foot around inside your boot to help it to stretch. If you want walk around in them in between each blast of the hairdryer.
You may need to repeat this process a number of times before you start to feel a difference.
You can wear some thick socks at the same time to help to flatten the inside of your boot and to help put a little more pressure on the material.
Pop Some Golf Balls Inside Your Boot
As you can see applying pressure in a certain area of your boot can help to expand the material and bed down the sheepskin making your boots easier to put in.
Golf balls placed in the front area of your shoe can do a similar job if you place enough of them in the toe area to help the material stretch.
Remember you can use this method with a stretching spray if you don’t have boot or shoe stretchers that you can use at home.
How to Stretch The Calf of UGG Boots – Bring Them To A Cobbler
Ok, so this isn’t a DIY solution but an option if you are worried about damaging an expensive pair of boots.
A local cobbler will have expertise in mending and stretching shoes and boots. They also have a large amount of expensive equipment to do this which you don’t have at home.
Their stretching process will be done using the best methods available and with the least risk of damaging them. When you get your UGGS returned they should be the perfect size for your feet and you will have had none of the hassles.
The only downsides are that you have to leave the house and find a cobbler to get this done and there is of course a cost. This may be a small price to pay if you don’t want to damage your expensive sheepskin boots.
Things You Should Never Do!
Some people suggest that a great way to get your UGG boots to stretch is by using methods involving water on the outside of the boots.
As an example plunging the boots into water and then wearing them to get them to take the shape of your feet. This is a very bad idea and a great way of ruining your sheepskin boots before you have had a chance to wear them.
Water and UGG boots do not really go well together as they can leave stains and marks on your boots if not done properly. So where possible avoid this method otherwise your boots could look terrible and you won’t be able to take them back to the store where you bought them.
Buy UGG Wider Calf Boots
Even though I have talked about how to stretch UGG boots in the foot section it is worth noting that some people make have a problem with their boots in the calves.
A typical UGG boot tends to have a calf circumference of around 14 inches which isn’t that large which means that many people may struggle to get them onto their legs.
If you do need a slightly wider calf the UGG Women’s Bailey Bow Tall II will fit around a 16-inch calf which may be enough for some people.
Buy a Calf Stretcher
Of course, if you have a pair of super tight boots that won’t even fit over your legs then you may need to consider buying a calf stretcher to help.
A calf stretcher is placed in the inside of your boots and turned to slowly expand the shaft of your boots. Once again stretching spray or the rubbing alcohol solution can be used at the same time to help.
FootFitter Cast Aluminum Combination Boot Instep & Shaft Stretcher is the premium product that will do this job but be warned the solution is going to be as expensive as the boots.
If however, you are going to regularly need something to stretch your boot calves then it is a great investment that you can use time and time again over the years.
