How to Stop Your Feet Slipping Forward in Shoes
High heel shoes are always going to present more of a challenge because of their angle. Unlike ordinary flat shoes, your feet are working against gravity but with the right methods, you can stop your feet from sliding. Our first solution is simple but effective for some people.
Use Double-Sided Tape Inside Your High Heels
We know that most people have a problem with their feet sliding forward in heels because either their shoe insoles are slippy or their feet are. If you have a slippy insole then double-sided tape might be the solution you need.
Sticking some double-sided tape into your insole is going to make the inside of your high heels have more grip. That means when you place your feet into your shoes they are going to be less likely to move around.
There are plenty of body tapes you can use such as this Braza Flash Tape. This is preferable to using just any old sticky tape. Just note that you may need to replace the tape after you have worn your shoes as naturally, the tape will get less sticky as dust, dirt and fluff adhere to it.
Wear Foot Lotion To Stop Sweaty Feet
Our next way to stop the problem of your feet from sliding forward in heels is to use a foot lotion. Not any foot lotion however but one that is specially designed to help stop sweaty feet.
Normal foot lotions actually are more likely to make your feet slide forward in heels because the moisture will lubricate your foot causing movement. Foot lotions designed to help stop sweat do the opposite and stop your feet from moving by eradicating the moisture.
Sweat Block lotion is a good example of a product that should do the job to help you stop the dreaded slipping when you are walking. You only need a tiny amount to stop the slide and you can use it on your hands as well.
Wear Inserts to Keep Feet From Sliding Forward Such As Shoe Insoles
Part of the reason why you might have a problem with your feet slipping is that your shoes don’t fit you as well as you want them to. We have all bought shoes at one time or other that have looked great but were perhaps a little bit on the loose side. You could have of course bought narrow heels to try and resolve the problem but that might have caused further discomfort. The key to resolving the problems relating to shoe fit is finding products that help your particular issues and insoles can be a great help.
Insoles come in all shapes and sizes depending on your particular problems. You can buy foam insoles for comfort or orthotic insoles to solve a mechanical foot problem. Find some insoles that solve your problem.
The cheapest and easiest way of doing this is to buy a pair of simple foam comfort insoles such as Dr Scholl’s Foam Comfort Insoles and cut them down to size. To do this take the insert out of your high heels and trace around it. If you can’t take the insole out then find another pair of your shoes that have a removable insole. Once you have the basic shape you can always trim them to fit your foot shape perfectly.
An insole that is placed along the entire length of your shoe is great for helping you to stop yourself from sliding forward in heels. Plus you are going to get the added bonus of more comfort when you wear them because of the extra cushioning.
Stop Slippy Feet With Ankle Straps
Ok, our next solution doesn’t really work if you have already bought your high heels but it might just be the solution if you continually find that your shoes are slipping.
Ankle straps on your high heels can be a great fashion statement but they also do the job of keeping your feet from slipping forward in your shoes. The extra strapping stabilizes your foot which helps you to walk without any problems.
We have seen high heels with one ankle strap or criss-cross strapping for even more security. A perfect example of fashionable black high heels with straps are these D’Orsay Pumps that come in lots of colors.

Prevent Your Feet Moving With Foot Deodorant
If you want to know how to stop feet sliding forward in heels then think about how sweaty your feet typically get when you are walking. If you have a problem with too much moisture which is making your feet slip in heels and even flats then you need to do something about it to make it stop.
We have already talked about foot lotion as a way of helping but you could also look at using a foot deodorant to help stop the sweat. Neat Feet Foot Saver Roll-On is a perfect example of a product that can help. Just roll it on the ball of your foot and anywhere else that gets sweaty to stop your feet from slipping forward.
Use Talcum Powder To Absorb Foot Moisture
Apart from foot deodorant and foot lotion then a really common bathroom product can also work to stop the slide forward and that is talcum powder. Talcum powder and other foot powders are great products to put in your shoes to absorb moisture and keep your feet smelling sweet.
There is no need to put in too much. Just a small sprinkling of powder in the sole of your shoe should be enough to help your problem. Dr Scholl’s sweat-absorbing foot powder is a great product for the job and it is an inexpensive solution to your problem.
Wear Pads to Keep Feet From Sliding Forward Such as Foot Petals
We have already talked about some different inserts that you can put in a shoe but we haven’t mentioned foot pads which are a little different. Foot pads tend to be placed where your toes are in your shoes and cushion the ball of your feet. These not only help to cushion the ball of your foot but also prevent it from slipping forward in the shoes.
Toe pads are great for high heels because they make them so much more comfortable to wear and you don’t need to place the insert in all of the shoes where it might not be needed. Metatarsal pads or Foot Petals both work well and they can be worn in sandals, high heels and even flats to help support your toes and prevent them from slipping or sliding forward.
Wear a Pair of Tights
Now our next solution when you might have a problem with shoes that make your feet slide forward is to think about wearing a pair of tights. The key with this solution is to find some tights that have grip and that aren’t too sheer. If the denier of the tights is too little and they are too silky you are going to make the problem worse. If you find a thicker pair of tights or ones that have a better grip on the soles they could help you when you are wearing heels.
Opaque tights are probably the best solution but because of their thickness wearing them in the summer might not work as well as some of our other solutions. They also don’t work well with sandals. If you do want to try them then Wolford does some of the best quality tights on the market.
If Your Shoes Are Slippery Inside Try Hairspray
Learning how to stop feet sliding forward in heels can be relatively simple with some solutions and they don’t get any easier than using hairspray. Of course, you are not going to spray it on your head but inside the sole of your shoe.
Hairspray, as it dries, is a bit tacky or sticky which might just be enough to stop the slip. Your best bet is to spray a small amount into your shoe to start and then gradually add a little more if it is needed. This is a good solution to use if you haven’t got time to find shoe inserts or buy some of the other products we have suggested.
If Your Foot Slides In Your Shoes Use a Toe Box
Finally, our last solution is great if you have a pair of high heel shoes that have a gap in the front of the toes that is causing you a problem. That gap means that your feet can slide down in your shoe until they start hitting the front of the toe area. That isn’t just annoying it can also give you foot pain.
To solve the problem a toe box or sponge can work quite well. Toe filler inserts are made from EVA foam which is placed right in the front of the high heels. This foam helps to fill the gap and prevents slipping.
For some people, this is a miracle cure but for others, it can feel uncomfortable. As with all of our tips and strategies to help you learn how to stop your feet sliding forward in heels you might have some trial and error before you hit on the solution that solves your problem. However, as most of our solutions are really inexpensive it shouldn’t cost you the earth to find a solution.
