Are Muck Boots good for wide calves and feet? Let’s talk more about this brand of boots and whether you will be able to find a style that fits.
This post is personal in a way because I have wide calves and at times I find it almost impossible to find iconic styles of boots in my size. The struggle is real! There is nothing more annoying than wanting a particular style or brand of boots and finding that they don’t fit over your legs or they aren’t wide enough.
Whilst things have improved over the last few years not every brand caters to wider calves or feet. I’m going to dive into this particular brand of footwear and discuss whether you are going to find the perfect pair of boots in their range or if you should look elsewhere.

How Much Do Muck Boots Stretch?
So are Muck Boots good for wide calves and do they stretch?
Well, this isn’t a straightforward question as Muck Boots do a huge range of different boots and each of them fits differently. Yes, the top of Muck Boots are made from stretchy neoprene but as with any material, it will only give so far before it cuts into your legs or even worse won’t go over your calves at all.
Muck Boots luckily have a guide on their website that gives the max calf circumference you can expect from each of their boot styles so that you can find the perfect fit. On looking at their wide calf selection however it soon becomes apparent that most of their boots barely fit that category.
A wide calf boot is usually one that is larger than 15-16 inches. Here is the max calf circumference of some of their wide calf boots.
Women’s Wide Calf Muck Boots
As you can see from the table a few of their boots such as the Unisex Chore and the Unisex Edgewater have that much-needed extra calf room.
The Arctic Sport Muck Boot is classed under their section for wide calf boots but is in fact under the typical size for this type of footwear.
If you have typical wide calves and wanted to play it safe when ordering boots that might fit over your legs then only their Chore Adjustable Tall Boots would be probably comfortable and suitable for larger legs.
These long boots are excellent if you have wider calves and are having problems finding wellies that will fit properly. The only issue is that if your calves are extra wide then you are going to struggle to get these over your legs. Extra wide boots tend to fit up to a calf size of around 24 inches.
How Do You Stretch The Calf of Muck Boots?
Are Muck Boots good for wide calves? Well as we’ve demonstrated in theory yes you can buy the odd style that fits wider calves but you are going to find that the range on offer is limited.
Even their mid-height boots are not designed to be comfortable on larger calves. So you might be wondering if it is possible to stretch those boots at home so that you get a better fit.
I’ve written an article on how to alter boots for wide calves to give you some ideas of what you could try if you need a little extra room in your boots.
Some of the methods I discuss include wearing thicker socks to stretch the boot material, using stretching sprays, or using products like the Footfitter Aluminium Stretcher to create the perfect fit.
Please note that whilst these suggestions may work there are no guarantees and you could find that instead of getting the perfect fit you could ruin your boots. If you are buying brand new boots it makes sense to purchase the right size from the start where possible.
Extra Wide Calf Farm Boots
So what can you do if you have extra wide calves and don’t want to take the risk on Muck Boots Neoprene styles being too small to be comfy?
Well, you’ll need to start to take a look at some of the other brands of wellies to find alternatives. Remember that Muck Boots are a brand that has a considerable collection of boots that are useful for different tasks so one company may not do everything you want.
Before you go searching for your new boots start to think about why you need them. Are they going to be used in winter and therefore need to keep your feet warm? Are you going to primarily use them for walking or keeping your feet dry? Are they work boots that need to deal with mud and grime? Map out exactly what you need before looking at alternatives.
Jileon Wide Calf Wellies
Take a look at Jileon’s Wide Calf Wellies if you are looking for a brand that specializes in wider-fitting footwear. This particular wellington boot style fits up to a 23-inch calf and comes in a range of colors and is waterproof.
Jileon does a large range of different wide calf boots and they have lower cut styles as well as their tall range so you should find something you like. They also like to make wellington boots in bright colors and cool designs meaning that you can usually find something a little out of the ordinary.
If you are looking for Muck Boot dupes then their Jileon Wide Calf Warm Insulated Neoprene Rain Boots for Women fit up to 20-inch calf size. These make better winter boots because the insulation can handle cold weather.
Are Muck Boots Wide Fitting?
Whilst Muck Boots don’t have a huge range of styles for wide calves are they any better for wide feet?
Well, Muck Boots clearly state that whilst their boots are made to standard widths they can stretch up to the size EEE. As Muck Boots don’t come in half sizes it makes sense to size up so that you get a better fit if you have wide feet.
So are Muck Boots good for wide calves? Well in theory, yes but only for calf sizes up to 20 inches. For anything over that size look at Jileon or other brands to fit your feet. But if you want Muck Boots for wide feet you are going to have better luck because the brand has a product that stretches to fit meaning you should find most of their boots fit the bill.
