Summer Shoe Checklist - My Must Have Footwear For 2026

My summer shoe checklist this year hopefully contains the perfect mix of sandals, sneakers, and versatile footwear to take me right the way through the warmer season. Yes my list is extensive but if you are following my posts you don’t have to pick everything on my list. This wishlist is what I would love to own. I might not buy all off these but will aim for at least four of five from the list.

The right shoes can keep you comfortable on hot days, whether you’re exploring new destinations, heading to the beach, or enjoying a casual weekend outing. With so many styles to choose from, I’ve rounded up my must-have picks to make sure you’re stepping into summer with confidence and have plenty of practical and fashionable options to choose from.

White Summer Trainers That Go With Everything

No summer shoe checklist is complete without a pair of classic white trainers. They’re effortlessly stylish, go with everything from flowy dresses to denim shorts, and, most importantly, they’re a dream for anyone with problem feet.

Unlike flimsy sandals that offer little support, a good pair of white trainers provides cushioning, stability, and all-day comfort.

I use mine for everything from long summer walks to city adventures and general abling around town.

Look for styles with arch support, breathable materials, and a roomy toe box to keep your feet happy, even in the heat.

This design by Tory Burch is a classic style with minimal fuss or embellishments apart from the darker color on the heel.

I am not a fan of too many logos or obvious marketing gimmicks by manufacturers so like the plainer look.

These round toe sneakers are also machine washable which is just what you need when you are wearing a white shoe.

These sneakers have a slightly sportier look with the raised toe front but they will still look good with just about any clothing.

These have a breathable textile upper which is perfect for keeping your feet cool and sweat free in the summer head.

If white isn’t your color don’t worry as these come in other shades as well.

Casual Summer Footwear – Birkenstock Sandals

The next footwear on my summer shoe checklist is a pair of Arizona Birkenstocks which are an all time classic. These are comfortable and casual making them great for every day wear.

The contoured cork footbed molds to your feet over time and provides incredible arch support which is ideal if you struggle with foot pain or need extra stability. Whilst the adjustable straps ensure a secure fit, while the lightweight, breathable design keeps your feet cool in the summer heat.

I prefer the leather upper Birkenstocks but if you are spending time at the water or beach you can find variations of the style that work in wetter conditions.

They are also incredibly versatile as you can pair them with sundresses, shorts or even a casual summer suit to give your outfit a chic European look.

Of course you can buy high heeled espadrilles as well but for me the flat look wins.

Low Heeled Mules

Last year it was all about flat heeled mules but his year mules with a low heel are now the new look.

The low block of kitten heeled mules give you a subtle height increase whilst still being pratical for all day wear.

They can add a touch of polish to your outfit and are also versatile looking great with tailored or casual wear. I love these tan mules which are a great summer color and give off a luxury vibe to any outfit.

Ballet Flats

I probably own more ballet flats than I do any other kind of footwear and they are perfect for summer especially in metallic or brighter colors to match the season.

Ballet flats are timeless, comfortable and elegant which makes them a winner in my book.

If you want a twist on the traditional ballet flats find a pair in the Mary-Jane style. I find the strap makes the shoes more secure however they are a little harder to put on.

I choose ballet flats with a cushioned sole and arch support so I don’t get foot pain. Also look for breathable materials in summer. I know mesh styles were really in last season but I wasn’t a fan because of the dirt and debris that can get in your shoes. Stick to the plainer classics and you can’t go wrong.

Of course summer isn’t all about casual wear. We still have to go to work or events that require us to dress up which is why I have chosen kitten heels as my last choice.

Kitten heels are really big right now and that suits me because I love a timeless shoe.

They also have a low heel which gives you some height and they are stylish and practical for all-day wear.

The slingback style is perfect for summer and can add a touch of polish to any outfit. They are also a great shoe to help transition you from a day to night outfit.
