Straight-leg jeans are the ultimate wardrobe staple. They are comfy, classic, and just look good on pretty much everyone, but I know a lot of people get stuck on what shoes to wear with them. You do not want to ruin the clean line or look like you just rolled out of bed so I have put together a guide which gives you my go-to shoes to wear with straight legged jeans.
My choices should work perfectly whether you want to wear your jeans casually or are putting on a pair of chic heels with them and going on an evening out. The idea is to give you plenty of choice so that you can switch up your footwear and outfit so you have more versatility in your wardrobe.
Here are my top choices that I think work perfectly with this jean style.

Loafers
Let’s start with one of my favourite flats the loafer. These are one of those shoes that work perfectly with straight leg jeans and it doesn’t matter if you are wearing the basic style or chunkier lug style they both work well.
For a put together look stick to the classic penny loafer style or if you want a more casual vibe try the chunkier designs.
What I love about them is that they are perfect walking shoes and work great in the colder months when it is wetter. Loafers work for the office, lunch trips, errands and travel making them a great workhorse in your footwear collection.
COACH Women’s Leah Platform Loafers
This season I have been coveting these chunky loafers which work brilliantly with jeans. They are understated and the black logo doesn’t scream out the brands name whilst you are wearing them making them perfect for work or casual wear.
Heeled Boots
Heeled boots are amazing for straight-leg jeans because they give you a little lift while still being practical. Even a small heel makes the jeans hang nicely and gives your whole outfit a bit more structure
I love these for days when I want to feel a bit more dressed up making them a good option for casual evenings out. Let the hem of your jeans sit over the boot, and the whole look feels a little more effortless.
Whilst I love heels I am really careful where I wear them. High boots for me are worn when I know I have minimal walking to do. I never wear skyscraper heels either and tend to look for block heels or wedges which are more supportive. If you don’t have problems with them that’s great but for many of us heeled shoes or any sort are really designed for when we are sitting down.
Vince Camuto Women’s Polleah Ankle Boot
Block heeled ankle boots always look good with jeans. Pick a pair with a block heel like these if you want to be more comfortable walking around.
Chelsea Boots
Chelsea boots on the other hand I can wear all day however they are a more casual look.
The shape of this style of boot looks great with the shape of straight leg jeans so you don’t even have to think about styling. This style of boot is perfect for those busy days where you just put something on your feet and go.
I hate having sore feet so having comfortable boots to wear with my outfits is really important. Gone are the days when I would suffer for a look. Chelsea boots meet that brief which is why I own a few pairs of them.
I tend to stick with the basic neutral colors like black, tan and brown as they work with everything helping creating a versatile wardrobe. I do however prefer the chuckier styles as they look younger and fresher than the flatter styles but both work well with this style of jeans.
Sam Edelman Women’s Laguna Chelsea Boot
Chelsea boots are the perfect casual comfortable footwear that work brilliantly in autumn and winter. I’m loving brown suede this season which seems to be the colour of the year.
Sneakers
I feel like I am stating the obvious with my next choice and that is of course sneakers. Surely sneakers go with just about every type of jeans there is so you really can’t go wrong.
Wearing straight leg jeans with sneakers is a combination that is comfy, simple and works perfectly when you are running errands and want a simple casual look.
I love white sneakers in the warmer weather as they are a classic choice. However at the moment it is all about the color this year and in particular the retro style sneakers. Adidas do some great ones that really add interest to a jeans outfit that might otherwise look dull.
Of course sneakers are the ultimate practical footwear for walking as well so these are what I will ultimately wear when I know I am going to be on my feet all day.
Veja Women’s Recife Logo Sneakers
You can’t go wrong with a pair of white sneakers in spring and summer. I’m currently loving the Veja brand which look good and are really comfortable.
Ballet Flats
Ballet flats are without a doubt the type of footwear that I wear the most. I think they always look chic and elegant plus you can just slide your feet into them and go.
Ballet flats always tend to elevate an outfit and turn what you are wearing from casual to polished which is why pairing them with a pair of straight leg jeans works well if you want to look more put together.
Again I stick to classic neutral colours but if you are braver than me and want a pop of colour then go for it.
These are great practical shoes as well which work in most weathers apart from pouring rain or snow meaning you can wear them nearly all year round.
Ralph Lauren Jayna Flats
These are the perfect ballet flats that look good with everything and never date. Perfect if you want to curate a classic shoe wardrobe with styles that never go out of fashion.
Backless Mules
For spring or summer then you might also want to try backless mules as another way of smartening your jeans.
These are easy to slip on but still look considered especially when they have a pointed toe to make them look slightly dressier.
Flat mules help to keep things a little more casual whilst a small heel helps to elongate your leg and makes your outfit look a little more polished.
I have to confess that although I have included them in my list I’m not a fan of this style of shoes because I find them harder to keep on my feet. For those of you who need more structured or orthopedic footwear have a look at some of the other shoes on my list.
Sam Edelman Womens Linnie Flat
If you want a pair of classic mules that looks good pick a flat horsebit style in a neutral colour like these flats.
Pointed Toe Pumps
For evenings out nothing works better than a pair of pointed toe pumps which is why I have a collection of them in my closet.
These lift straight legs jeans from day time to night wear in seconds and instantly make your feel taller and your body elongated.
Pointed toe shapes peeking out from under a jeans hem adds a great line and if you are worried about shoes being too high pick a low or medium heel as they will work just as well and be more comfortable.
These are the perfect footwear for dinner, drinks or any event where you want to dress up your jeans without looking too formal.
COACH Women’s Samantha Pump Shoes
There is a reason why royalty and models wear pumps. They look great, make you taller and instantly make everything look a little more expensive. Buy these and you will have the perfect shoes for nights out on the town.
Low Slingbacks
Alternatively look for a pair of low slingbacks which are subtle and comfortable so a great practical choice.
The low heel and the open back gives them a dressy feel yet they are are perfect for everyday wear.
You can wear these to work, for lunches or just daytime plans when you want to look chic and polish. This style works particularly well with cropped straight legs because the strap becomes a little focal point.
I also love to use my slingbacks with mini or pencil skirts for that Joan in Mad Men vibe.
C.Paravano Slingback Flats
Slingback flats or ones with a small heel are chic and perfect for the warmer months. I’m loving these leopard prints which add interest to jeans.
Slides
Finally last but not least if you want to keep your look really casual and practical in the summer months then you can also wear them with slides.
This gives you look a relaxed feel which is perfect for casual days, holidays or quick trips out of the house.
You can go ultra casual with sporty slides but I still prefer to look a little neater and choose leather ones to look a little smarter. Think Mediterranean holiday rather than slobbing around your back yard.
Make sure you get ones that are really comfortable so that you can wear them all day.
Steve Madden Haydn Slides
Don’t worry if you can’t afford the iconic Hermes slides when you can buy a perfect dupe like these and look a million dollars.
Choosing The Best Shoe Styles To Wear With Straight Leg Jeans
If you were wondering what shoes to wear with straight leg jeans then hopefully I’ve given you a better idea of some of the classic footwear styles that work well with them.
Choose your shoes depending on the weather or season, how smart or casual you want to appear and also the comfort level that works best for you.
Remember there are no defined style rules just suggestions so just because something is not on my list doesn’t mean it won’t work. Experiment with what you have and try different combinations until you find the ones that work for you.
