DIY Peppermint Foot Soak Recipe With Epsom Salt
Yes you can buy shop bought foot soaks and they are great as well but making your own peppermint foot soak is quick and affordable. Here’s the simple ingredients I use to make my soak.
- 1 basin of warm water (enough to cover your feet)
- 5–10 drops of pure peppermint essential oil
- 1 cup of Epsom salt or sea salt
- Optional: a few slices of fresh peppermint leaves for an extra spa-like touch (I don’t bother but if you are feeling boujie then when not)
How To Use
- Fill a large bowl or foot spa with comfortably warm water.
- Stir in the Epsom salt until it fully dissolves.
- Add the peppermint essential oil and swirl the water to make sure it is mixed in.
- Soak your feet for 15–20 minutes.
- Pat dry and follow with a moisturising foot cream (The Body Shop do a great Peppermint one).
Honestly this is so simple to do and will leave your feet feeling cool, soothed and smelling fresh.
Benefits Of A Peppermint Foot Soak
There are so many reasons why peppermint is a great product to use in a foot soak.
Adding peppermint to your foot care routine is more than just about fragrance. It provides a range of benefits:
- It’s Cooling – Peppermint oil has a natural cooling effect that helps ease tired, hot, or swollen feet.
- Stress reduction – The scent helps you to relax which is perfect when you want to wind down.
- Odor control – Peppermint has antibacterial properties that can help freshen your feet and reduce unpleasant odors.
- Improved circulation – Warm water combined with peppermint can help boost circulation.
- Softer skin – When combined with salts or baking soda, the soak gently softens rough skin, making exfoliation easier. So I might combine my foot soak with at at home pedicure as well.
Peppermint Foot Soak With Baking Soda
If you want to mix up the recipe you can also use baking soda. I use baking soda in a number of different foot soak recipes as it is gentle, softens my skin and helps to neutralize odors as well.
Ingredients:
- Warm water
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- 6–8 drops peppermint essential oil
If you deal with foot odor or dry, rough skin, baking soda helps balance pH levels and leaves your feet feeling clean and fresh. Peppermint will then add that extra burst of cooling relief and a spa-like smell.
Tips For The Perfect Foot Soak Experience
To make your peppermint soak feel even more indulgent, try these tips:
- Set the mood – Light a candle, play calming music, or grab a book while your feet soak.
- Add a scrub – After soaking, use a pumice stone or gentle foot scrub to remove softened dead skin.
- Moisturize afterward – Lock in the hydration by applying a thick foot cream, shea butter, or coconut oil.
- Use a foot spa machine – For an extra touch of luxury, a bubbling foot spa keeps the water warm and massaging.
- Try peppermint tea – Adding a few brewed peppermint tea bags to the soak can enhance both the scent and benefits.
When To Use This Peppermint Foot Soak
A homemade peppermint foot soak is perfect to use:
- After a long day at work standing or walking
- Post-exercise recovery for sore muscles
- Before bed to help calm and relax you
- As part of a weekly self-care or pedicure routine
- When your feet are more swollen in the summer
