Using home remedies for foot pain is a game-changer if you are dealing with sore, tired, or swollen feet.
These natural, simple solutions that I regularly use myself can help to provide relief from discomfort especially if it has been caused by standing too long, wearing uncomfortable shoes, or overexertion.
By incorporating techniques like Epsom salt soaks, targeted massages, and cooling applications, you can alleviate pain and support your feet in recovering quickly. Here are some of my favoritie ways to pamper your feet and keep them feeling their best—all from the comfort of your own home.

1. Ease Foot Pain With Epsom Salt
An Epsom salt soak is a classic remedy for sore feet, offering relaxation and pain relief. In fact I have a whole article on why soaking your feet in Epsom salt is great for your foot health that you can read.
The magnesium sulfate in Epsom salt helps to reduce muscle tension, improve blood flow, and decrease inflammation. I love to use this remedy at the end of a long day on my feet.
It is really easy to do just dissolve one cup of Epsom salt in a basin of warm water and soak your feet for 15-20 minutes. This simple routine not only soothes soreness but can also soften rough skin, making it a really versatile home foot treatment.
2. Use Essential Oils for Foot Pain Relief
I have a number of posts on this site you can look at singing the praises of using essential oils on your feet.
Essential oils like lavender and peppermint are known for their soothing and anti-inflammatory properties which make them great to use as home remedies for foot pain.
Add a few drops to a basin of warm water for a foot soak, or mix them with a carrier oil like coconut oil for a foot massage.
Lavender helps ease tension and promotes relaxation, while peppermint provides a cooling sensation that alleviates pain. I also love the smell of these oils. Lavender is a great one to use before bedtime and peppermint helps to wake me up in the morning.
3. Roll Your Feet Over a Tennis or Golf Ball
Using a tennis or golf ball for a foot massage is an excellent way to relieve tension, especially in the arch of your foot.
I suffer from plantar fasciitis and I have a golf ball in my desk drawer that I will get out during the day to help. I just place the ball under my foot and roll it back and forth, applying gentle pressure.
This technique helps stretch the plantar fascia, improve blood flow, and alleviate pain caused by conditions like plantar fasciitis. It’s a quick and effective remedy for everyday foot fatigue that really works.

4. Apply an Ice Pack to Reduce Swelling
Ice packs are another simple yet powerful remedy for swollen and sore feet. I tend to use ice slippers for tendonitis at the top of my foot but they can work anywhere that you have discomfort.
Wrap a few ice cubes in a cloth or use a gel ice pack, and apply it to the affected area for 10-15 minutes.
This reduces inflammation, numbs pain, and can be particularly effective after prolonged standing or strenuous activity. Just be sensible and avoid applying ice directly to the skin to prevent frostbite!
5. Elevate Your Feet
Elevating your feet above heart level helps reduce swelling and promotes blood circulation, especially after a long day. This is great if you have swollen feet and ankles
Lie down and use a leg elevation pillow to prop up your feet for 15-20 minutes. You can also use the pillow in bed if you like.
This remedy is particularly effective for those who spend long hours on their feet or experience discomfort due to conditions like edema or varicose veins.
6. Use a DIY Vinegar Foot Bath
A vinegar foot soak is a natural detoxifying treatment that soothes sore feet and fights bacteria.
Combine equal parts vinegar (white or apple cider) and warm water in a basin, and soak your feet for 15-20 minutes.
The acetic acid in vinegar has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it a great option for reducing pain and preventing infections.
7. Try Stretching Exercises for Sore Feet
If you want easy home remedies for foot pain then stretching exercises are an effective way to relieve tension and improve flexibility in your feet.
Simple routines like toe curls, calf stretches, or rolling a towel under your arches can alleviate pain and prevent future discomfort.
Just make sure you have a consistent routine to make a difference. Doing the stretches regularly helps to improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and helps manage conditions like plantar fasciitis.
8. Apply Aloe Vera Gel To Reduce Foot Inflammation
Aloe Vera gel offers a natural cooling sensation and helps reduce inflammation when applied to sore feet.
It is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds which means aloe vera can soothe pain while hydrating dry, cracked skin.
Apply the gel directly to your feet and massage gently for relief after a long day or a rigorous workout.
9. Wear The Right Shoes
When I was younger I would wear all different types of shoes that really didn’t suit my feet. There would inevitably hurt my feet and not give me the stability I need.
Fast forward a few years (or more) and I’ve learned that I have to wear the right shoes to help any foot pain I have. Orthopedic shoes do work but of course some of them are ugly.
Luckily I found the brand Vionics and discovered that not all orthopedic shoes have to look clumpy and make me look like an old woman. Wearing their shoes made a huge difference to my plantar fasciitis because the inserts in the shoes support my arches and give me the right cushioning.
It is well worth checking out their website to see their range of footwear that ranges from flats to boots, slippers and high heels. Not every shoe is a beauty but there are plenty that are.
10. Use Arnica Cream For Sore Feet
Finally last but not least of my home remedies for foot pain is Arnica Gel or Cream.
Arnica gel is a really great natural remedy for sore feet because it helps to reduce swelling, ease muscle pain and improve blood flow. The plant it is made from is known for being anti-inflammatory and having pain-relieving properties so it makse sense to use this as and when you need it.
It is especially useful for foot pain caused by standing too long, minor injuries, or inflammation. However, avoid using it on broken skin, as it can cause irritation.
