Onycholysis Treatment At Home
If you have a problem with foot fungus then these are some of the best solutions you can use at home.
Use Tea Tree Oil for Athletes Foot
I always have a small bottle of tea tree oil at home for insect bites and minor irritations because it has antiseptic properties but did you know it is also antifungal?
Tea tree oil is great to use on fungal infections and is usually used with a carrier oil because it can cause skin irritation. Usually it makes sense to use it twice a day. Once in the morning after your shower and in the evening before you go to bed.
If you are going to dilute the tea tree oil mix it with coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil in a 1:1 ration.
I like to use it in a foot soak and fill a basin with warm water and add the oil to the water. If you aren’t sure about the exact number of drops to use buy a tea tree oil foot soak instead to make things easier.
You can also use tea tree oil in a foot spray if you like and mix it with some water and witch hazel in a spray bottle. Shake the mixture and then spray on the affected areas of your feet.
Tea tree oil is one of the most popular home remedies for foot fungus because it is a natural antifungal, it has antibacterial properties plus it is anti-inflammatory as well.
Using Garlic As a Antifungal
Do you think garlic is just for cooking? If you do think again because if you crush a few cloves of garlic and mix them into a paste with a little olive oil you have an antifungal treatment as well. This is because of the allicin that is contained in the garlic.
If you are going to use garlic as a paste then it should be left on your feet for around half an hour and then rinsed off afterwards. Dry you feet and repeat the next day until the problem has gone away.
You can also create some garlic oil as well to use if you want. Just heat some olive oil and add crushed garlic gloves. Allow the mixture to cool and infuse and then strain out the garlic pieces. Now you can apply the oil to any problem areas on your feet.
I buy pure organic coconut oil and apply a think layer on the areas that have an issue and massage it gently into the skin. I tend to do this in the morning and the evening.
You can also mix a few drops of tea tree oil with the coconut oil if you want as well.
Using coconut oil for fungal infections is probably my favorite method because it is gentle on most skin types and is soothing as well reducing itching that you sometimes get with the problem.
Using Epsom Salt
Home remedies for foot fungus don’t have to be expensive which is why Epsom salt should be on your list.
Epsom salts have always been great at reducing inflammation, soothing aches and pains and softening the skin which is why people bathe in them. However did you know they can also be used for stopping foot fungus?
Neem Oil As an Antifungal Treatment
Finally last but not least of my home remedies for foot fungus is Neem oil.
Neem oil is an effective treatment because of its antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects. You can read my full post on the power of Neem Oil as an anti-fungal treatment if you want or just use these simple instructions to use it at home.
With organic Neem oil you can mix it with a carrier oil like coconut oil or olive oil or use it in its pure form.
Clean and dry your feet before use and apply a few drops on any problem areas of your feet with a cotton ball and massage it into the skin.
Do this a couple of times a day until the infection clears.
You can also buy Neem oil cream if that makes things easier for you.
Preventing Foot Fungus
Whilst my home remedies all work it is always easier to try and prevent foot fungus from occurring in the first place.
To do this follow these tips:
- Keep Feet Dry: Fungus thrives in moist environments, so keep your feet dry, especially between the toes.
- Wear Breathable Footwear: Opt for shoes that allow your feet to breathe and avoid tight shoes.
- Change Socks Regularly: Change your socks daily or more often if they become damp.
- Maintain Good Foot Hygiene: Wash your feet daily and dry them thoroughly.
If the foot fungus persists or worsens despite using any of these home remedies for foot fungus make sure that you consult a healthcare professional for further treatment.
