How To Soften Feet At Home
Before you start to use any of my home remedies for dry feet try and have the following equipment at home first:
A foot Bath or Foot Spa
Whilst a dry pedicure is something that some salons offer I much prefect to treat dry itchy feet after they have had a good soak first.
A foot bath or foot spa allows you to soften any hard skin first before using the recommended home remedies.
Foot Soak
I do recommend a number of foot soaks as a way of stopping dry feet below. You can use these first before using some of the other remedies as well.
If you want a good softening foot soak to use that isn’t on this list use this lavender foot soak in your warm water to do some of the work for you.
A Great Exfoliating Tool
There are lots of different foot exfoliating tools on the market that help you to remove dry skin before using some of these home remedies.
The simplest is a pumice stone but I don’t always find them that effective. Instead invest in an electric callus remover or use a Diamancel foot file.
Once you have soaked your feet and done a basic exfoliation you can use these powerful home remedies for dry feet to make an even bigger difference.
Using Coconut Oil To Treat Dry Feet
The first product I recommend is using coconut oil and putting it on your feet before bed.
After you have washed and exfoliated your feet put on the coconut oil and then put a pair of cotton socks on to help the oil penetrate into your skin overnight.
The great thing about coconut oil is that is really effective moisturizer and also have antibacterial and antifungal properties that help to heal and protect the skin.
Do this regularly to get softer skin on your feet.
Best Home Remedies for Dry Feet Include Shea Butter
Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nuts of the African shea tree and has been used for centuries for its various beneficial properties, particularly in skin and hair care.
It is well known as a moisturizer because it contains fatty acids that help to hydrate and protect the skin. It is also anti-inflammatory and helps with healing because it contains vitamins A and E which help skin repair and regeneration.
To use it on your feet massage the butter into your feet and leave it on overnight. If you cover your feet with socks it will help with absorption and give you baby soft feet over time.
Using Honey On Your Feet
Whilst you might think honey is something that you just eat it actually is relatively effective on dry feet.
If you are going to use this put the honey in your foot bath (not your foot spa in case it impacts the electrics) and mix it into warm water.
Soak your feet for 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water only and dry your feet afterwards.
Honey works because it is a natural humectant which means it draws moisture info the skin.
Olive Oil To Soften Skin On Your Feet
Olive oil is another product that can be used to help soften the skin on your feet at home.
Just warm the olive oil and then massage it into your feet before you go to bed. As before put socks on to help the oil do its work overnight.
Olive oil is a great home remedy for dry skin because it is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids which moisturize and heal dry skin.
Try Aloe Vera
If I use Aloe Vera on my feet I buy the gel as it is easier to use that dealing with the plant.
I apply the gel to my feet and leave it on for around 20 minutes before rinsing it off and patting my feet dry.
Aloe Vera is known for its anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties which means it is great to use if you have dry or cracked skin.
Milk and Honey Foot Soak
Another idea for a foot soak that you can use at home to help dry feet is honey and milk.
Once again don’t use a foot spa for this and use a foot bath instead.
Mix one cup of honey and one cup of milk into a basin of warm water and soak your feet in it for 20 minutes before rinsing and drying them.
This works because the lactic acid in the milk exfoliates the skin, while honey moisturizes and heals.
Home Remedies For Dry Itchy Feet – Make an Oatmeal Scrub
Another foot stuff that you might have in a kitchen cupboard is oatmeal which can be used on your feet.
Make a paste by mixing oatmeal with olive oil and rub the paste on your feet focusing on any dry areas. Leave the paste on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
Oatmeal gently exfoliates the skin, removing dead cells, whilst the olive oil provides moisture.
Using Petroleum Jelly
I am a big lover of Vaseline and I use it all the time on my lips but did you know that it is also one of the best home remedies for dry feet?
Buy a large tub and apply a thick layer of petroleum jelly to your feet before bedtime. Cover your feet with socks to lock in the moisture overnight and you should have much softer feet in the morning.
Petroleum jelly creates the perfect barrier to lock in moisture and helps to heal cracked skin plus it doesn’t cost very much to use day to day.
Take An Epsom Salt Soak
Foot soaks using the right products can help to soften your feet and one of the best is Epsom salt.
Usually you place half a cup of Epsom salt in a basin of warm water and soak your feet in it for twenty minutes. When you have finished the soak rinse your feet and then dry them.
Epsom salt is a good product for helping to exfoliate dead skin cells and it also helps to soothe tired or achy feet.
Just check before using them in a foot spa as not all of them are compatible with the salt.
Use a Vinegar Soak
My final tip might be a little surprising and that is using a vinegar soak to help soften your dry skin.
You mix one part vinegar (apple cider or white vinegar) to two parts of warm water in a basin. Soak your feet in the mixture and then rinse and dry them.
Vinegar is actually a great product to soften the skin and remove any old skin cells plus it is acidic and helps balance your skins pH.
So there you have my top ten home remedies for dry feet. Which one do you fancy trying?
