Hey Dudes are the ultimate smart casual shoes loved by both young and old. Why are Hey Dudes so popular? Well, they are a great choice if you want comfortable and lightweight shoes but as some of the designs are similar are Hey Dudes Unisex or not?
There is often a lot of confusion when customers see a certain design of shoe that they love but they can’t work out whether it should be worn by men or women. Whilst some people don’t care and just buy shoes that fit others are less inclined to buy a shoe that isn’t designed for their gender.
So can both sexes wear Hey Dude designs? Well here’s what may help you to decide whether to buy a pair of Hey Dude shoes or not.

What Does Unisex Mean?
A unisex design simply means clothing or shoes that are designed for both men and women or which can be worn by both.
This is probably a slightly old-fashioned way of looking at things now as gender definitions are being blurred and traditional styles worn by the other sex are now worn by both.
For example, you only have to look at Harry Styles to see that one of the best-selling artists in the world is happy to wear feather boas and carry a handbag which traditionally have been considered female accessories. This illustrates that no one design has to necessarily be for one specific gender.
If however, we think about the traditional ways of looking at things then Hey Dude Shoes are not particularly feminine looking but then neither are trainers or loafers.
Hey Dudes are however comfortable casual footwear and men and women can look equally stylish in them.
Are Hey Dudes Only For Men?
Are Hey Dude shoes only for men? Well, part of the problem is that the masculine look of many of their designs can be confusing to female consumers when the shoes are viewed in a shop or online.
At first glance, they can look like men’s boat shoes or loafers. However, stores usually place shoes in men’s and women’s sections which gives the clue that actually they can be worn by both sexes.
To illustrate my point here is a pair of Hey Dudes Wendy Sox Shoes in Glacier Grey. These are designed for women.
Now contrast this to the Hey Dudes Men’s Wally Sox in Stone White and try and spot the difference.
This brings up an important point which is although the shoes themselves are designed by Hey Dudes for either men or women the styles are not and could be considered unisex.
Can Hey Dudes Be Unisex?
So are Hey Dudes Unisex shoes? Well, they certainly are when it comes to the basic styles of shoes.
Hey Dude sells a large number of different styles of loafers, boat shoes and slip ons and their unique shape is clearly ok for both men and women to wear.
Whilst the sizing will be different the materials and shapes are not and that means that both genders are able to wear a pair of their shoes and you wouldn’t know who they were marketed for.
Do All Hey Dudes Fit the Same?
Are Hey Dudes Unisex when it comes to the fit of the shoes? Well, this is where there is a difference in the brands footwear sizes.
You can’t just pick up a size of women’s Hey Dude shoes in a certain size and assume that the same size will work in men’s shoes. There are in fact two distinct size charts given by the Hey Dudes brand that allows you to pick the correct size of shoes for your gender. There is also another chart for children’s shoes.
So if you were to go on sizing the shoes aren’t unisex or interchangeable in that a size 10 in women’s won’t be the same size in the men’s style.
If however you went into a shop and started to try on styles randomly to see what Hey Dude shoes fit then that is a different matter. You could easily try on men’s designs or styles as a woman to see if any of the shoes fit your feet. If you found a pair that were comfortable and easy to walk in there would be absolutely no reason why you couldn’t buy them.
As many of their shoes look so similar it wouldn’t matter which ones you bought and in that sense, the brand could definitely be considered unisex.
Perhaps the only thing that would matter to some people is the color of the shoe. For example, these Hey Dude Shoes in Wendy Rose Tie Dye design might be off-putting to some men. However, you can buy the exact same style in Sky Blue and suddenly the shoes become unisex again.
Shoe Size Guide for Men and Women
Whilst Hey Dude Shoes come in Unisex designs and colors their sizing as demonstrated by these charts shows that there are differences between the genders when it comes to shoe size.
If you are a certain shoe size then Hey Dude Shoes have adjusted its sizing to reflect the differences in men’s and women’s feet. As I said earlier if you are just trying on shoes without looking at sizing for fit this shouldn’t matter but it will if you are buying off the internet and need to know what model or style of shoe will fit when you get it.
You should note that there are no half sizes in Hey Dude Shoes which adds a further complication. If you wear half sizes it isn’t a simple matter of sizing up or down. Instead, you need to look at each type of shoe to find out the recommended sizing as each type of shoe will fit differently.

Are Hey Dudes Good for Wide Feet?
Hey Dude shoes are also made in ordinary and in wide fit as well. This has nothing to do with whether they are unisex or not but simply reflects them creating products that are suitable for people who have wider feet and want comfortable shoes to fit their feet.
Not all of the Hey Dude shoe styles come in wider fit sizing which means that you will need to check what is available in your local store or online.
The fact that many of the brand’s shoes have adjustable laces can help in some cases. This is because people with narrow feet can adjust them to make the shoe fit tighter whilst they can be loosened if you have wider feet for comfort.
Hey Dudes For Women
Here are some of my favorite Hey Dude Shoes for Women. Note that the styles are not that different from the men’s but the colors I’ve chosen reflect a more feminine palette.
Women’s Wendy Sox
These come in the traditional boat shoe/loafer style but the multi-colored design makes them stand out. The cushioned insoles make them hugely comfortable and they are incredibly lightweight so easy to wear and transport if you are going on holiday.
Even better this particular design is machine washable which means you can keep your shoes looking and smelling great.
Lena Shoes
These Hey Dude Lena Shoes look a little different because of their slip-on design. These are super easy to put on your feet when you are in a rush but still look stylish.
This particular design of rose leopard print makes them look more feminine than some of the other styles made by the company.
Men’s Hey Dude Shoes
Here are a couple of the men’s styles that have a more masculine look about them. Are Hey Dudes unisex? Well, the fact is in this day and age these would also look great on a woman. So don’t be constrained by gender labels. If the shoe fits and feels comfortable to wear you can walk around in whatever you like.
