Are Hey Dudes good for standing all day or should you be looking for a different type of footwear if you are spending a lot of time on your feet.
I’ve talked a lot about Hey Dude shoes in the past because they are hugely popular and relatively cheap in comparison to many of the designer brands out there. Whilst they are good casual shoes that are perfect for every day wear for short periods I know that many of you want to wear them all day long even if you are stood up for the majority of the day.
So here’s my take on why Hey Dudes great features as well as some of the problems that you are going to come across if you try and wear them when you are working or on your feet for hours on end.

Are Hey Dudes Good For Being On Your Feet All Day?
I’ll start by giving you the quick answer to the question which is no I would not recommend Hey Dudes shoes to be worn for standing all day on your feet.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. No one pair of shoes is going to be suitable for all situations. Just because a shoe might initially feel comfortable when you put them on it doesn’t mean that you would wear them all day.
As an example my slippers are really comfortable indoors but they aren’t exactly ideal for wearing outside walking around for hours on end.
If you are going to be stood up all day then you need to think about where you are standing, the environment you are standing in and your foot health. Depending on the answers to those questions will determine what shoes you should be wearing.
The Key Attributes a Shoe Needs If You Want to Stand All Day
At the bare minimum you are going to need the following features in your footwear if you are going to wear your footwear for long periods of time.
- Cushioned soles – Thick, shock-absorbing soles like those made from memory foam or EVA cushion the heel, arch, and ball of the foot when standing for long periods.
- Arch support – A firm arch support promotes better posture and evenly distributes body weight to reduce foot strain.
- Wide, reinforced toe box – Gives toes room to spread out to maintain balance and prevent pinching or irritation.
- Low heel – A low, wide heel around 1 inch provides just enough elevation while still letting feet rest flat when standing.
- Slip-resistant sole – Durable rubber or synthetic soles grip well on slick hard flooring. This grip may need to increase depending on where you are working and in what conditions.
- Breathable upper – Mesh fabrics allow air flow so feet stay cool and comfortable all shift long.
- Adjustable closures – Laces, straps, or elastic gives customized, secure fit around the foot to enhance support.
- Lightweight – Less bulk eases strain on feet, joints, and back compared to heavy materials.
- Flexible yet Supportive – The shoe bends where feet naturally bend without stretching out of shape or losing resilience over time.
- Suitable For The Weather – If you are outside your footwear needs to be able to cope with the weather.
- Footwear Needs to Be Safe – Certain environments have safety footwear as standard.
- Durability – Your footwear needs to be durable as when you are stood up all day your shoes get more wear and tear.
Whilst Hey Dude Shoes have some of these features they are lacking in many as well which means they you should be looking for different shoes to wear if you are on your feet all day.
The Best Shoes For Standing All Day – My Recommendations
Finding the right shoes for standing all day can be a challenge. However I can recommend a number of shoes and sneakers that can work well.
Remember these are just suggestions and may not be suitable in every environment but they all have better cushioning, support and durability than Hey Dudes.

Hey Dude shoes do have some nice features which I’ll talk about which make them ok casual summer shoes. Here are some of the reasons why Hey Dudes are so popular.
Cushioned Insoles
One standout feature of Hey Dude shoes is their cushioned insoles, often made from memory foam. This material adapts to the shape of your foot making them feel comfortable.
Certainly on initial wear this can give you a false sense of comfort as your feet sink into them making them easy to walk in. However the problems start when you are wearing them for prolonged periods of time as the shoes lack other features such as good structure and support which will impact your foot health over time.
Lightweight Construction
One of the standout features of Hey Dude shoes is that they are so lightweight so you hardly notice wearing them on your feet.
As they are so light you may find they help with foot fatigue making them easy to wear. By wearing lighter shoes you are putting less strain on your feet, ankles and knees which can only be a good thing.
Breathable Materials
Hey Dude shoes are also made from breathable materials. The fabrics used in the shoe allow more air flow around your feet and minimize heat build up.
This means that the shoes are also good for sweaty feet which reduces the possibility of fungal infections and food odor. This is beneficial in hot weather when these types of shoes are mostly worn. You feet should stay cool and dry in them making them feel more comfortable.
Roomy Toe Box
The design of Hey Dudes is also good for your feet because of the roomy toe box.
Having space for your toes to spread naturally is important as it stops compressed toes and general discomfort especially when you are on your feet.
The generous toe space allows for better blood circulation and can prevent problems such as corns and bunions.
Flexible Soles and Traction
The shoes also feel comfortable when you wear them because they have flexible soles and good traction.
As we stand and move through our day, our feet need the freedom to flex and adapt to different surfaces. The flexible soles of Hey Dude shoes allow this so your shoes move with your foot rather than against it.
Good traction is also indispensable for safety and stability. Slippery surfaces can become hazardous, but thankfully, Hey Dude shoes are designed to grip firmly to the ground. However they are not safety shoes!
Whilst Hey Dudes have better gripping properties than some shoes they don’t meet the standard for many environments.
Washable Footwear
This is a key reason why I like Hey Dudes for casual wear, they are washable in a machine.
Summer shoes can start to smell and look dirty relatively quickly in the heat so it is great that someone has invented shoes that can withstand being tossed into the washing machine.

Affordability
Finally when it comes to the pros of Hey Dude shoes they are really affordable which is another reason why the sales of these shoes are so strong.
Young people in particular love them because they can buy different styles and the price doesn’t break the bank. Add to that the fact that people find them really comfortable it is no wonder that wearers want to put them on all day.
The problem is that sometimes you do need to spend a little extra on shoes that are going to look after your foot health. If you don’t do this you are making a false economy when you get problems with your feet later on.
Cheap is good but not at the expense of your feet!
Hey Dude Shoes Cons
Whilst Hey Dude shoes have some great attributes they aren’t great for standing all day because they also have issues that are going to impact your feet. Some of the major problems include:
Durability Problems
Hey Dude shoes are cheap for a reason and part of that is because they aren’t particularly durable. Mine tend to last the summer season and then I’m ready for a new pair.
If mine are wearing out when I am only wearing them for short periods of time you can imagine how quickly they will start to degrade if you are stood in them all day walking around.
More durable shoes are much more suitable for every day use.
Hey Dudes Lack of Good Arch Support
Are Hey Dudes good for your feet? Well the biggest problem for me is that Hey Dudes lack good arch support and that is crucial for me as I have flat feet.
Arch support is necessary to keep your foot aligned in the correct position when you are walking. If that support isn’t there your feet start to lean to the side.
This leaning can impact your foot health and cause problems such as plantar fasciitis and tendonitis which is painful and hard to get rid of once you have it.
You can see how little arch support there is when the insert of the Hey Dude is removed as my picture shows.
Poor Toe Protection
The shoes are also incredibly soft and flexible which is fine if you are in any every day setting but not so good if you are doing work that needs toe protection.
If you drop something on your feet whilst wearing Hey Dude shoes you are going to know about it.
The Shoes Are Not Waterproof
Are Hey Dudes Waterproof if they get wet?
Well I wear my Hey Dudes like most people in the summer when there is little rain because the shoes aren’t waterproof.
Wet weather and snow is going to seep inside the fabric and make your feet cold and soggy if you wear them at other times.
So if you are planning to wear them to stand all day outside you had better hope there is good weather otherwise they will prove to be relatively useless.
Lack Of Structure
Whilst Hey Dudes flexibility is fine for short walks the shoes lack of structure is less useful if you are wearing them all day every day.
The flexible fabrics mean that your feet can start to stretch the materials so the shoes start to lose their shape and this means your feet have more room to move out of position as you walk impacting your foot heath.
Hey Dude Work Shoes Aren’t A Thing
Unless your job involves sitting down all day at a desk Hey Dudes aren’t going to be suitable for jobs where you are standing all day.
One reason for this is that they don’t have adequate safety features that are needed for some jobs.
Work shoes can often need steel toed boots, extra traction or features that help with electrical safety. Hey Dudes do not meet these minimum safety standards which means that many workplaces would not allow you to wear them.
When Should I Wear Hey Dudes?
I personally believe that Hey Dude shoes are great to wear in warm weather for short periods of time. I wear mine for short strolls, walking around shopping malls or whilst I’m driving.
When I do this my feet are comfortable and I don’t find they cause me any problems. For longer walks I will swap them for sneakers like Sketchers, Hokas or Vionics because they give me the extra support I need to help prevent foot pain.
I should add that I also add additional insoles to just about all of my shoes to make them more comfortable for my feet. This makes sense if you have foot problems that you want to prevent from getting worse.
Final Words
Can you wear Hey Dudes for standing all day? Well hopefully I have shown exactly why they are not going to be sufficient for heavy duty wear.
Remember there is nothing wrong with these shoes its just that not all shoes are capable of doing every activity.
Whilst Hey Dude shoe have many great features they also have problems when it comes to arch support and structure which matters especially if you already have foot problems.
So wear them for casual outings but choose something a little better when you need to be up on your feet all day.
